I agree with the article. But what really makes a difference: many vst plugins sound better at higher samplerates. With acoustic recordings it really makes no big difference

Yes.
It's all math, and there are such minuscule differences these days that very very very very (very) few can tell the differences, and your target audience definitely won't.
If it sounds good to you, it IS good.
About the only thing now is being more efficient in coding so stuff doesn't cripple the systems they're being used on.
If all the stuff you have sounds good, without a huge ass CPU footprint, you're good to go.
