Is it? Or is it just a rational explanation? In all honesty, I've never ever needed nor thought about the feature. Like.... EVER. I imagine that I'm not alone, but stranger things have happened!xamido wrote:Lol. Now that's just your fanboyism talking there.
Next Propellerhead Reason upgrade (9.5) to include VST support

I just downloaded the demo and I could swear it runs VST instruments with less latency than on other hosts. It's as fast as playing ROM patches on a workstation.

If opinions in forums are any kind of indicator, i would say that not more than 20% or so really requested VST support in Reason. The others were absolutely fine with the stock devices, and RE's. FWIW.xamido wrote:Lol. Now that's just your fanboyism talking there.EnochLight wrote:
Has it occurred to you that the reason why it wasn't/hasn't been added is that simply not enough people want it? If they're like any other software house, they have to prioritize the features that are added. If they've not gotten a lot of requests for this, it's no wonder it hasn't been added (no matter how "loud" a handful of people scream at them).

Yes indeed...not only that...but Reason also continues to be rock solid,in terms of stability!Equally as thrilling,is that the update is so simple and effortless...as you simply open up an instance of Reason, click on Download and it automatically scans and all of your 64 bit plug-ins and they're are ready to use. It's no no more complicated than downloading an RE...amazing!

Ive a bunch of Reason tracks from the early 2000's that never quite got finished because I didn't feel like they had enough depth to them. I replaced all of reasons built in effects with various UAD plugs. It still sounds like "reason" but there is now some bite to them that sounds like its worth pursuing the ideas further... I also didn't realize how second nature reason was after all of these years. I just work smoothly in it. This may or may not become my full time DAW, but it is at least now a great option...

I find myself lowering the default volumes of the VST patches compared to the ones from the Reasons synths and RE most of the time...

That's because all stock Reason instruments and most Rack Extensions adhere to the practice of having the volume set at minus several db, to allow for headroom in mixing. Virtually all VST adhere to whatever setting their dev chooses - which is usually cranked to right below 0 db (because you know, "louder is better" and all that lol)..liquidsound wrote:I find myself lowering the default volumes of the VST patches compared to the ones from the Reasons synths and RE most of the time...

Yep, having the playhead revert back to start is stupid. Wait, no it isn't
Anyways, seems there is a way to do this, though I'll be buggered to remember how. Reason, a pretty deep program that isn't always captain obvious. (like the end marker

Well i can confirm pretty bad VST performance. At least when it comes to effects. I just tested it for 2 hours (mainly VST fx).
Example - I can load only one Acustica Gold channel in nearly empty Reason project (just Redrum playing one sample) and i am getting "Computer too slow to play a song - you need to optimize blabla" as soon as i touch plugin knobs.
That's not bad that is EXTREMELY bad VST performance when you consider that i have Cubase, Ableton, FL Studio (demo) and Reaper.
In all 4 mentioned i can load at least 25 channels to make my computer get on knees (i have i7 haswell overclocked to 4ghz, 32gbram, SSD). All mentioned programs run at 44khz, 1024 ASIO buffer - same as in Reason.
That's ratio of 25 versus 1 - what the heck. I know Acustica plugins are demanding but something is definitely wrong inside Reason VST performance.
One would think maybe it's Acustica plugin causing trouble but same plugin works wonderfully in 4 different host. I am gonna try in Sonar as well (when i get in other office). Then i tried Relab, Softube, U-he and Slate. From what i can see - no i can't get same count like on mentioned programs.
I tried to disable Reason multicore support but that did not helped. Also my CPU Usage limit in Reason preferences is at 95%.
Overall i am having cold shower after so much of anticipation.

It very well maybe the interaction between Acustica and Reason that's causing the issue. I haven't tried my most demanding plugs yet, but, I have a project going right now with Diva and ACE and I'm not feeling any stress.
I don't think that it's as efficient as Reaper, for sure. I'll say this though, I'm stoked about this and given that a lot of what's in Reason isn't completely useless, I'm finding the usage fine at the moment. I'll still render to stems and mix in either Reaper or Cubase.
