Increasing prices could reduce the number of sales, though, in an ever-competitive market. Donations, being voluntary, would have no effect on sales and -- perhaps -- even allow funding for advertising to increase sales. It's impossible to predict the outcome of increasing prices. It's also, as you say, likely that a voluntary donation isn't going to bring much reward, either. However, given that there's no cost involved in enabling donations, I can't think of a reason to prevent it. It doesn't prevent product price increases in future, either, as it's entirely unrelated to payment for product development.

Whatever incentive is provided by raising the purchase price should also be incurred through donations, no? I suppose there's no reason why both avenues couldn't be traversed.
By the way, I'm not suggesting the dev should work harder. As far as I'm concerned the product is more than capable of providing the tools needed to create amazing music, and has been for a while.
Yes, the point of donating is to say thanks. I see nothing wrong with that.

Perhaps donations toward advertising: 'Share the Enjoyment' ?

I mean: Maybe people who will donate will also 'ask' for specific FRs because they donated.
That's a situation i want to avoid.

Or do you mean a pure donation, no strings attached?
No strings attached. It's just a way of added support and saying thanks and keep up the good work.
Having an option open for it could work out well. :tu:

Aren't free upgrades part and parcel? I mean, who'd buy an app that didn't offer free upgrades? You'd end up stuck with a bugged out app!

For example, look at the Korg Electribe 2. It's buggy as hell and Korg are doing next to nothing to fix all the issues it has. Granted, they made a very small effort to solve some things, but the unit is left unusable in a live situation for many due to pattern change glitches. Totally unacceptable. You could argue that you buy as is, but that allows the dev/mftr to be as sloppy as they want.

So realistically upgrades are mandatory and should be free in order to solve teething issues related to new products/features.

Just my thoughts, no malice intended.

Be clear on the difference between "upgrade" (I take to mean "addition of features") and "update" (enhancement/fixes to existing features). Going from MuLab 2 to 3 to 4, etc are upgrades. Going from MuLab 7.4.1 to 7.4.2 is an update. Or, taking a different manufacturer, going from Native Instruments Kontakt 4 to Kontakt 5 is an upgrade (and you pay); going from Kontakt 5.6.x to 5.6.8 is an update (and is free).

Upgrade was the word CloudSpell used, so I used it. Correct it as you see fit. But the stance still stands... 8)
