Waves Tonecentric and Mixcentric add noise

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum but I have a work-around for the noise issue with GW's Mixcentric. It's a plugin by Izotope called Denoiser. You simply put the Denoise on your master chain immediately following Mixcentric. Click on the "Learn" button in Denoiser and it learns the noise of GW's Mixcentric. That's it. It works perfectly for me and absolutely doesn't change the sound of my mix. I've A/B'd dozens of times with and without the Denoiser and it's killing it for me.
Hope that helps.

PS Sorry about the double post. Can't figure out how to delete the other one.

Denoise it? Good idea - but a little destructive for music. Would be better to just turn it off, like you can with the Wave PuigTecs or API's.

Can you? I've read elsewhere here that it was something that reviewers complained about that Greg Wells insisted on keeping. I think that you're just supposed to embrace the noise for the "mojo" that it provides.MogwaiBoy wrote:Denoise it? Good idea - but a little destructive for music. Yeah you can with other Waves plugins.
See: "Analog" On/Off

Adjustable noise level (including silent operation):

Mains hum selection or straight off:

Noise:

Etc - but not the Greg Wells stuff. Also his signature ones combine mains hum and hiss together, not just white noise - so they actually produce a low level tone under your tracks. You will get away with a couple on a session but they start building up and become more pronounced through compression. Nothing "mojo" about mains hum in my opinion.
I need to shush about this
It's not a major - I have to respect Greg Wells vision. It is what it is. Don't like it, go elsewhere etc - so I did.

Yes, I meant specifically with the Greg Wells plugins? I'm aware that the normal modeling stuff has it as an, often controllable, feature.MogwaiBoy wrote:Yeah you can with other Waves plugins.
I don't think there's any way to remove it from the Greg Wells plugins.
In any case, yes, I don't respect it TBH, but I know that those are exactly the kind of plugins that I hate. I don't think that I'd use them if Waves gave them to me.

Oh Sorry I misunderstood you. Correct, there's no way to adjust the noise/hum on Greg Wells' plugins - it's a shame but ah well.

I had this conversation about 6 months back online at Gearslutz with Greg himself.
During the development phase the Waves guys kept coming back to him asking if they can remove the noise from the plugin, at least according to Greg. He said NO, don't get rid of it, he likes what the noise does to his mixes.
It was Greg's design feature to have noise in there in the first place, without the ability to disable it. He said if the noise does get a bit too much during the quite parts he either backs off the processing or uses a gate/expander or noise removal. I think thats what he said.
I'm with Greg though. I actually like what some analogue nose does for a mix as well. It introduces a little intermodulation that helps make for a more cohesive, organic sounding mix. But then I tend not to do a lot in crushing tracks with compression or too much parallel processing. I also work a lot with virtual instruments, so I tend to have bit of leeway concerning noise levels.

Sorry for the delay, I'm never on here;-)Arleth8s wrote:Hey Davey! thanks for reply me!
But the noise is over the mix? or the noise has gone when the music is running?
I'm asking this becouose my work sound in big sound systems, discos and more, and maybe on this big speakers the noise sound over the mix..
Yes, you might hear it on something that has more dynamics and has been mastered very loud. I've heard it on certain songs and haven't been able to use it. On others it's not really noticeable except for maybe the top and end when nothing else is playing. So, it really depends on if it's an issue. You'll have to demo it for sure. I like what it does to a track but sometimes I just can't use it.

Try chasing it with a noise gate or an expander.Davey Boy wrote:Sorry for the delay, I'm never on here;-)Arleth8s wrote:Hey Davey! thanks for reply me!

In the last case it was a noise that one could hear within the track so I wasn’t able to gate it;-) Normally I just clean up the top and end and it’s not an issue. This time around the client pointed it out to me. I think it’s really program dependent. The top of the song had a breathy pad thing going on and with Mixcentric turned on you could hear a new layer of “noise/hiss” on the pad.simon.a.billington wrote: Try chasing it with a noise gate or an expander.

I really don't understand how Greg even recommends using Tonecentic and Mixcentric on the same track. On multiple tracks that adds up to quite noticeable noise!

It’s what Greg does himself. The plugins were “designed” by him, but programmed by Waves. He wanted a single “macro” knob process he can use to simplify his personal processing chains.jbarish wrote: Wed Sep 26, 2018 6:53 pm I really don't understand how Greg even recommends using Tonecentic and Mixcentric on the same track. This is story of told before, but apparently the devs at Waves kept coming back to him wanting to do something about the noise. Greg WANTED it to be left in. He likes how it can make the track sound a bit more cohesive. He said if it becomes a big problem you can just follow it with a gate.
I spoke to him on Gearslutz, this is how I know.
I still wish there was a little dial in the corner myself, but there’s nothing wrong with a little noise, especially when everything is so pristine. It chan help tracks mesh. But then, I don’t slam everything.
