Quick answer needed Push 1 vs Push 2 for bitwig

Push 2, imo, has a better knob and button layout. The feel of the old knobs vs. the new is virtually the same. Though, the new buttons are very different! Honestly, I can't say I really like the old style or the new; I don't think either button style is ideal. Yet, again, I think Push 2 may (and I say that lightly) have a leg up here.
The biggest departure, from the user standpoint is the new color screen. It may not seem like a big deal, yet I'd have to say it really enhances the ease of use (having owned 1 and now 2). The Push 1 screen is functional, yet it can still be confusing. Adding color indications goes a long way and Moßgraber's script implements the new screen abilities well.
Other things: Push 2 is slightly larger than Push 1 (14.88" x 11.96" vs. 14.5" x 11.54"). Yet, Push 2 is slightly lighter than Push 1 (6 lbs vs. 6.6 lbs). Push 1 was built very well, but I can tell Push 2 has better tolerances. For instance, Push 1 would creak (from flex) if I pressed the pads down with a lot of pressure (for aftertouch, and btw, both units have a wide pressure sensitivity range). Push 2, however seems to be more ridged and does not exhibit a 'creaky-flex sound' that I can tell. This could change with time however.
One additional thing to note is the power requirements are different. Push 1 was entirely usable with USB bus power. Push 2, however, requires a lot more power to light up fully. The good news is that Push 2 comes with a power adapter in the box (12V DC 1.25A). This is not to say Push 2 isn't usable with USB alone. Rather, the LEDs behind most of the function buttons are turned off in this mode. This is perhaps my biggest complaint about the unit. Although, 5V/0.5A USB power is only so adequate and we're talking like ~80 LED buttons here, plus a high-resolution RGB screen.

For me the deciding factor was that Moss who programs the scripts for bitwig uses a Push2 himself in his performances, so i figured that it may be the best long term investment that will be supported best. I don't think you'll be dissapointed by the Push2 especially now Moss has really started taking the script to new level.

I dont think you can use Push2 with USB only, must be used with the plug.gckilla wrote:many thanks for the great answers. How severe are the lighting limitations with push 2 on usb only?
Push1 you can use usb but its horrible, you can barely see the writing on the buttons. Defo need a plug.

Yeah, it's true. The USB illumination on Push 1 is okay in a dark environment, though not great. Meanwhile, Push 2 doesn't even try to light it's function buttons on USB power--except for the active mode button, strangely. Push 2 however does illuminate it's screen quite nicely on bus power, not fully, but perfectly usable indoors and out.
Btw, if it's not clear from what I just said, Push 2 will indeed work on USB power alone.
On another note, Push 2 vs. 1 has brighter and more evenly lit pads. This is regardless of power source.

Push 2 is definitely a refined and improved version, but Push 1 is a great deal for the price and I would buy Push 1 over 2 given the price. It is also not my main means of note input.

I kinda wish I kept my Push 1 instead of selling it.
They actually travel petty good. I've been on a train with it, airport, etc.
I think one of my favorite features, for creativity is the "Scales" mode. You can also change the pads from that screen to be in either 4ths or 3rds.
