I haven't tested Dune extensively to see all what is changed... snappy envelopes can sound more solid at audio rate than control rate.recursive one wrote:Btw, it seems that many people don't understand that "audio rate modulation" in Dune is not a global sound quality enchancer. It only matters when you are using modulation signals faster than 100 HZ, eg oscillators of fast LFOs. Otherwise setiing the modulation speed to audio rate won't do any difference to the sound.
DUNE 2 is out now!!

It is possible that an Osc calculates at audio rate and an LFO at control rate. (whatever those rates are in a particular synth)chk071 wrote:I'll try that, even though i'm pretty sure that there should be no difference, whether you modulate parameters with the LFO's, or the OSC's. After all, it's both a value/audio signal, which has to be "translated" in a way, and the synth's engine should handle that the same, if i'm not totally mistaken. But, of course, the higher the modulation rate, the more apparent it should be, if it is not running on audio rate.
It is really up to whatever the developer decides to do.

Sounds logical, will test that. The manual says that switching to audiorate affects all modulation sources.pdxindy wrote: snappy envelopes can sound more solid at audio rate than control rate.
Is not quite clear though if this refers only to modmatrix assignments or hardwired modulations too, in Dune2 one envelope is hardwired to amp and another one - to filter, so it may or may not make sense to override the respective pre-assigments by manually assigning the envelopes to the same targets via the matrix in order to have the benefits of the ARM (it just stroke me that this is where this mysterious "envelope bang" may hide).
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

This is Dune2 when using oscillator as modulator. This can only be done at high audio modulation rates.

No they don't!Dasheesh wrote:...and solid state drives speed up your computer allowing more voices. When I shoved a proper ssd in my old 2012 mac it gave me a handful of more voices to play with.
If you had even basic computer knowledge you would know that!

Look, all I can tell you is that before my ssd I had troubles playing pads in Bazille, after the ssd I could play the same pads. Try it, you'll like it. Enjoy your drink, or what ever gets you kids off these days.

Alright look. What these guys are getting at is through put has a limit. What probably happened is that my old school mac had a spinner that was less then through put and the ssd gave me through put capacity, but I'm drunk on tequila and eating ribs on the BBQ and I don't play with Richards. So there you go. Enjoy your night.

Decided to make a (half-arsed) version of the Twin Peaks theme using Dune 2:

Nothing else except EQ here and there + Presswerk on master

None of the requests EnGee asks for strikes me as particulary demanding to implement. 4 FM is pretty standard, 2 Filters in series should be ok if you can do 8 in parallel, as Dune does right now, and the rest is UI. This also are quite sensible suggestions.Dasheesh wrote:Yes and please implement quantum computing and manipulate gravity while you are at it thanks.EnGee wrote:
1. 4 FM Operators instead of 3 with the known algos like in Operator (Ableton Live) (I don't mind taking a whole layer for that).
2. 2 Filters and some routings like in NI Massive(that would be more than great!)
3. Option to colour every layer.
4. Larger middle screen without the modulation matrix, like in Sylenth1 and Hive.
5. The modulation matrix better to be in the keyboard section (like in Hive for example.
I am genuinely puzzled by your comment, Dasheesh.

Another thing about Dune 2, I was really suprised by a free soundset found here:
I would not have thought that Dune 2 can sound like this - that is, raw and squelchy. Acid is not my favourite thing, but I suspect that Dune 2 has a lot more tricks in its sleeve if it can do that.
I really wish that Dune had a more immediate access to modulations, like e.g. Serum or Avenger, modulating things feels like doing spreadsheet calculations. Otherwise, Dune 2 would get far more use, as it is so low on ressources and can do all the essentials.
