I've spent about $52 with them and have been getting $25 vouchers the last couple months except that month where they had better sale prices but lower vouchers. I have 10 of their products, a number were either free, such as through Focusrite or because the vouchers made them free. I have a number that were $9 on sale. I don't know what the point they gave me the voucher because I wasn't paying attention. But I think the Focusrite freebie helped because it wasn't a Brainworx one. I think it is more the fact I tend to buy at least one a month since I joined in November.shidostrife wrote:Just wondering, how much did you guys spend with PA til you get your first $25 voucher? Waves are clearly technically adept but the WUP renewal system on their website is SO archaic.medienhexer wrote:Thank god we finally have a common understanding of how WUP works at KVR now.
That being said, waves still seem to be doing a poor job of explaining it to new customers, seeing how the same questions keep popping up about every other week.
Top notch customer service but really bad at explaining WUP.
How hard would it be for them to code it so that it was more userfriendly, with options like "Select only expired WUP licenses" or even just give an itemised breakdown of the total cost to take out some of the trial & error/head scratching.
Or, instead of staggering your WUP's all over the place at different expiration points... how about an option to "Bring all of your licenses to the same expiration date" for convenience? The system can calculate which date works best based on your licenses and their WUP expiration dates.
The reason why the price routinely exceeds their so-called maximum of $300 isn't adequately explained. They make it confusing as hell and I wonder if it's partly deliberate.

The point soundbylaura was making is:
Waves Version 9 was introduced in march 2012
If a version 8 user had just one day of WUP left at that day, they could upgrade to version 9 for free. Let's say they then let WUP expire. 5 years ago. They would still be able to install the most recent version for free, providing compatibility with the latest MacOS and Windows versions.
And they can keep on ignoring WUP when, eventually, Waves version 10 is introduced. They won't be able to install version 10 updates anymore but Waves will still provide the last version 9 installer. And it usually takes quite some time before an outdated installer doesn't work at all anymore due to OS updates.
So, many users like soundbylaura or myself are using Waves out of WUP just fine

Actually, there are only two things to consider and they're both explained on the page when you get WUP renewal.
So, check the checkbox.
And then, the part about overlapping. If you have, for example, Gold Bundle and you picked up RenBass as a free Christmas gift, you have to uncheck RenBass, because it's already part of Gold Bundle.
If you uncheck, WUP is capped at $300. If you check it again, it exceeds $300 because you're updating WUP for two RenBass licenses and hence your selected items overlap.
That's really all you need to know. And a lot of complainers can't be bothered following these instructions and once they complain in online forums, complaints turn to myths and myths become truth.
Like I said, I'm SO glad more KVR users have first hand experience now to debunk what used to be "yes it is" "no it isn't" kind of discussions with people who weren't even Waves users but still bringing the myths into every single discussion.
Code: Select all
To be eligible for the per-account cap, select the check box below to confirm that you use all selected products on one computer at a time.
To purchase Waves Update Plan coverage for overlapping products, de-select the check box below.
I hereby confirm that I run all products on one machine at a time.

Nice. Maybe I'll grab this $9 chorus. Not completely arbitrary. It is the one that comes after 9.mrj1nx wrote:What exactly does waves version 10 mean? Just an arbitrary number?

But then again, Microsoft skipped Windows 9. So I get why one would be skeptical

Agree - would be good to have him back. I must say, though, that I have noticed a steep decline in the number of flame wars on this thread in his absence... let's hope that trend continues and we can focus on deals and music making... I've become used to (and appreciate) the more civilized tone.

I've noticed most of those flame wars are not him starting them. I realize he may start them on other threads, but there are a few that follow him over here and make nasty cracks which are not necessary and appear to just be carry over from somewhere else on this forum because they really have nothing to do with the subject. I wish they would keep it to the other threads.homestudiomusician wrote:Agree - would be good to have him back. On the other hand, I don't buy as much when he isn't around. Much better for my wallet.....
