If CW is not planning further development/support of this, than releasing it makes zero sense, and just opens up a can of worms they will undoubtedly regret.

When Mac users who try this "prototype" come back here and say this or that is broken or needs so and so to be better -- only to be met by radio silence from CW -- does anyone doubt the sh*tstorm that will develop? And whose fault will it be? 100% Cakewalk's.

Unless, I missed a previous announcement that said this thing is back in development... Did I?

The shit storm happend when they announced halting development and people had bought licences and lifetime upgrades based on the fact the licence was to be cross platform

True, which is why it's mind-boggling they are setting themselves up for another one.

Yep. I don't understand this at all, especially as they already have a certain reputation in regards of stability and support of their software.

You do realise we're talking about something that happened seven weeks ago. The storm has long since blown over.

Yes, I know. Exactly my point. It was more or less forgotten. Why bring it up again?

Well to be fair Roland went bye bye years ago. Gibson has owned Cakewalk for a number of years now. But yes it was a pathetic show all round really, all the attempts to cover things up, and excuses just made it worse.

No

This was released when they made the announcement that it was the end of the line for SONAR4Mac. Without going through it all again, don't be fooled that this is what they were working on, this is SONAR Home Studio running on Codeweavers. All it is is a way of saving face, to be able to say, "Hey, we said we would release SONAR4Mac, and here it is" simply designed to head of the complaining and statements that they didn't do what they said they were going to.

Remember this is SONAR Home Studio running on Codeweavers, they had videos out of SONAR Platinum supposedly running on Mac natively. The evidence is still out there, there are references to various things to be found in threads around the net should one want to look. The excuses are just that, excuses. Remember how they slyly removed all references to the Mac version from the Website etc long long, and I mean weeks/Months before they announced the end, while all the while not answering any of the many questions and inquiries about what was going on with the Mac version.

Pure and simple, they couldn't do it, and they came up with this cockamamie Prototype as a face saving measure, no more no less. As a few people on the Cakewalk forums refereed to this Prototype, they called it "The Cakewalk Damage Control Edition Freebie" :D which is pretty much spot on.

It hasn't been brought up again. Not by Cakewalk.

Quite why the OP started this thread 7 weeks late in the instruments forum is a mystery.

Yes, I know we're not in the instruments forum anymore, but we were.

Don't know much about SONAR, but on Mac it is competing with Logic Pro X at $200.

Then again, I am a Mac user who uses Cubase who also owns a PC desktop, so maybe it might be an ok idea :D

Codeweavers wine also always was outdated compared to recent wine. What a waste of time Roland Software on Mac is.
FWIW, Roland hasn't owned Cakewalk for a couple years.
Gibson owns Cakewalk.

Oh, that's interesting, thanks. I even now had the theory that all Roland plugins on mac run in a kind of wine vst emulator, which would explain the poor performance. But I was wrong. Roland did do it right to sell Cakewalk.

Anyway, I was really pleased when Cakewalk seem to announce a native Mac version like one year ago. It was fake, ok, they want to stay with DirectX, ok...
