is there some nice tutorials which explain how to program your own patches besides the manual?

IMO a really interesting book.

FWIW i just started creating my own patches with the D-50 plugin but i guess i just scratched the surface of what might be possible. I did not try much of programming when i had the real D-50 back in 2004...).
Starting from a Synth Brass patch that i created from scratch using only the synth part (no PCMs) of the D-50 plugin i started replacing one of the 4 partials with a PCM sample.
For that i selected PCM sample "119 TronStr" that is a sustained Tron sample included with the additional 28 V-Synth VC-1 D-50 expansion card PCMs that were not found with the original D-50.
I called the patch "Tronic Brass 1" and here is an audio demo of that patch:
IW - D-50 VST - Tronic Brass 1 - Demo 1
Modwheel was used for adding vibrato to teh patch and aftertouch for increasing filter cutoff with the synth parts (PCMs do not use a filter).
All built-in FXs like EQ, Chorus and Reverb were used with this but no external FXs.
With typical "LA Synthesis" usually you used a short attack PCM sample and the synth part for the sustained part of teh patch. As teh more "percussive" part of my pathc is done with the synth part and the sustained part with a PCM sample it is more like "reverse LA Synthesis".

ingo i absolutely love this patch, it has this Dungeonsynth style, hope to buy this package when it's out
.
thanks for all teh explanations, i still dont understand the d50 yet but always wanted it (hence i got the d550 here but never used it much cause i dont like the workflow with hardware!) cause for what it was used in e.g. old italian horror movies etc.
i understand normal synths now much better but this i dunno yet.

nice to hear you like the patch. Currently in my newly created bank i only got 3 patches. The first was the edited "Stereo Polysynth" where i added the built-in EQ to add more low end, the second a Synth Brass patch with 4 partials (no PCMs used) and the 3rd the patch from the audio demo where i replaced one partial with the Tron PCM sample (some other changes were done in that patch too compared to teh "pure" Synth Brass").
Here is a download for the current bank:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/532 ... er%201.zip
Here at Windows 10 the file is located at C:\ProgramData\Roland Cloud\D-50
Anyway for importing loading the bank it seems to be necessray to use the "Load" button in the bank/patch browser to load the bank in the plugin. To just tcopy the file to the folder mentioned above does not seem to work.

Bedsides the demo and the patches i just posted above KVR member Beely just posted a download for a huge amount of D-50 banks converted to the plugin *.BIN file format:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... &start=405
Checking a bunch of patches included there also seems to be good for learning how programing the D-50 works. Of course also the original factory presets are already helpful there.
Itt will take ages to check all the patches included with those banks...
Like Beely mentioned in that other thread too i created a new bank (Later maybe more) for collecting favorites from those many banks that are available.

Independent of the patch (or patches) i posted and the really huge converted D-50 banks collection provided by beely the book linked at my first post here seems to be quite helpful to learn about all the features incliuded with the D-50 and later inthat book there also seem to be patch tutorials starting with doing modification to teh factory presets.

Nice. The 4 output modes could be explained a bit better.Ingonator wrote:KVR member sergiofrias just posted his own tutorial video in the other D-50 thread:
Mode 1: Upper and Lower tones are going to L and R (mono), Reverb is applied to both tones.
Mode 2: Upper tone going to R, Lower to L, Reverb is applied to both tones.
Mode 3: Upper tone + Reverb going to R, Lower (dry) to L.
Mode 4: Upper tone going dry to R, Lower + Reverb to L.
So: Mode 2 is for making very wide sounds, Modes 3 and 4 are of limited use.

FIRST, thanks SO MUCH to you guys!
you know how long i waited for a D50/D550 vst and it seems it is finally fully featured here... well cloud f**k... but well JD800/990 left and XV 5080.
i checked the tutorial video and started to read the pdf but i dont get the envelope controls!
e.g.
https://clyp.it/rtp0jij5

where do i control the normal ADSR controls? i wanted this with a slow attack like 1-2 secs then while holding the key playeD (it's all teh time hold but cut up in my audio...) then a smooth release 1-3 secs. so i set the T5 about halfway still, but the sustain doesnt hold the sound but cuts :/
any ideas?

Look at the envelope graphic on the gui, that tells you which stages are which, and which rates and levels are which.
They are a little more complicated than standard ADSR envelopes, but you don't have to use all stages.
So look at the "ENV" controls for both filter and amp, the "T" controls are the times, and "L" controls are the levels.

After loading a bank the file is automatically copied to the mentioned folder and is permanentely available in the bank selector afterwards.Ingonator wrote:windows 10 the file is located at C:\ProgramData\Roland Cloud\D-50

For ADSR I used T1 as Attack and T5 as Release. For Decay i currently set the time T2 as the Decay time and T3 and T4 at 0 (minimum). In my previous attempts i did set all 3 times to the same value which worked too but is not necessary and using T2 is enough (+ T3 and T4 at 0).Caine123 wrote: where do i control the normal ADSR controls? i wanted this with a slow attack like 1-2 secs then while holding the key playeD (it's all teh time hold but cut up in my audio...) then a smooth release 1-3 secs. so i set the T5 about halfway still, but the sustain doesnt hold the sound but cuts :/

Concerning levels i set L1 at maximum (= attack level) which is how it works with ADSR too and the 3 levels L2, L3 and SusL at the same value which then represents the sustain level. Only using one of those 3 levels does not sem to work properly.
Here is a sceenshot that shows using the filter envelope as an ADSR for a Synth Brass patch:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/532 ... ADSR_1.png

The "EndL" level has to be set to 0 if the level should be at 0 after the Release time.
