A funny thing about fender "jazz" basses. In the beginning people called them Fender "electric" basses But that name had already been taken. Leo Fender struck a deal for building Rhodes electric pianos. He and Harold Rhodes met up helping vets in rehab after WW!! they developed a "bass" version of the Rhodes. This was long before the electric bass came to be.

The Precision Electric Bass Guitar was the preferred bass for Jazz bassists in the 50's and 60's in NY because the instrument was favored by Jazz Bassists. Due to the Portability factor.

Jazz Bass + Avalon U5 on Tone 1 with High Cut on = perfect bass every time

It's a nice sound on its own, but not perfect until you mix in some B15 miced with a nice tube LDC into a Chandler TG2. ;)

Ok KVR Guitar God's ! Lolz ... I'm kind of having a situation right now . Not quite new guitar day but a should I get rid of this Amp situation . Im mainly an acoustic guitar and songwriter .... But let me get in to my electric situation hahahaha ...So I have 2 guitar Amps . A VHT special 6 ultra ( tube handwired ) real nice and I have a Roland Cube30X digital emulator plastic plastic plastic but man it sounds so nice . I find the Roland Cube30X does everything that I want , I DON'T gig , it's quiet , I can get a Marshall Sound 70 80 90 s sound , Mesa Rect late 80s 90s sound , Tweed , Vox AC30 and many many more ... The Marshall and Mesa Rect emulations are my favs . The built in effects reverb delay flanger chorus imho suck ass , I don't use them I should've got the cube30 for cheaper ... I feel like I'm getting the sound from my favorite records and artists with the Roland Cube30x . With the VHT amp I feel like I have to crank it loud to get cool dirty sounds but it's manly an AC/DC highway to hell sound , 70s classic rock as well as blues rock sound which I like , but feel limited with it still feels like something is missing to me , the clean channel is really nice but you still have to have the volume pretty loud to feel the air and effect of what a tube amp does which is F'n amazing I'm not gonna lie. Now I've changed the tubes out , speaker out gws reaper , bought a MXR dirt pedal superbass the silver one zoom cdr pedal... Anyways I can't get the sound off those records or sounds in my head with this amp , without it being to loud and I don't feel like chasing amp in a box pedals , I really really wish I could have the Cube30 in a pedal to use for VHT it's such a nice Amp but I don't have a Garage or a woodshed . I also have a mother in law living with me and it's a small house , so do I sell this VHT 6 Ultra or trade it in ? Man it's hard to let go of stuff . I also need to learn how to play guitar solos F'n 90s teen here shame on me , It's hilarious I love 80s solos in hair metal but hate the songs . I love Van Halen and AC/DC , I like BlackSabbth(Ozzy only) Zepplin Hendrix 70s, not a Beatles fan (odd huh ) then I love 90s alternative( aic Sound garden , the cure too ) but also including New Metal old Korn sepultura and Pantera . I guess this 6watt tube amp has got to go , damn wish I could get that cube30 sounds in a pedal .....

how much do you want for that vht? those things are fantastic... alas, i would probably have a similar issue... trying to get 'big sounds' in a bedroom situation... but, i am interested... at least a little bit. i've read that those vht amps are tight.

I have a Roland Cube amp and it does nothing but collect dust.
Here's the thing about Roland Cube amps They don't have an output level. Regardless of how roland preaches COSM. It's basically an amp sim minus the level out. Which means that you'll have to crank the master before you'll get any use out of the EQ or the pre.

If you are all about the hardware you are much better off with Amplifi or Firehawk FX. While Line 6 does hard to push helix.... Helix does not have the variety of amp models as do other line 6 effects units and amps. It doesn't matter that you may not be into high gain amps. Take them along with all the other amp sims and use only the ones you like.

Right now my main amp is a Yamaha THRC 10 watt amp. It doesn't have a million amps and it uses Yamaha / Line 6 approach to mapping each circuit in the amp's chain for a more realistic amp emulation through out. While it's been pretty good for most classic rock/pop/jazz situations it's still nothing like having more amp sims to deal with and... more effects modeled after classic real effects. As a result I'm sending my zoom G1Xon into the auxiliary stereo in on my Yamaha.
The zoom pedal board has 32 amp models and 100 effects. It's very clean and very realistic. I use the zoom because it's battery powered and I can take it to busk with.

If I had my druthers or an electrical outlet in parks or on street corners I'd go for a Line6 Firehawk FX. More amp models more effects all sounding very clean and more realistic and more presets of "famous sounds"

The clean tones in that video aren't bad but the medium and high gain tones are fizzy and fuzzy. I'd normally throw an "IMO" at the end of a sentence like that but the fuzziness is measurable.

What do you guys think of the new Roland Katana Mini?

Don't underestimate MIM stuff from Fender. Nice necks, decent hardware and not sloppy. I have two, like 'em.

To comply with CITES regulations, all MIM Fenders are now being made with Pau Ferro fretboards. It's what Stevie Ray Vaughan used and I've always been under the impression that it's closer to Brazilian Rosewood than Indian Rosewood is.

The main problem with MIM instruments is the hardware, change out the pickups, bridge, and tuners as soon as you can.

Shipping would kill me , I'd have to sell the VHT locally.... I'm thinking about keeping it , its great clean ...... I'm on the fence still ? and maybe I'll Chase some pedals for it , hate to do that ... a Suhr Riot Pedal , (distortion ) or maybe Full one OCD (overdrive ).. And a couple of effects loop pedals like TC flashback delay , TC Hall of Fame reverb , maybe a EH small clone.. I hate the Zoom crap it's to many menus and patches to go through .. Those Boss Katana look good and sound good on the demos.

Yeah, I think it's a blessing in disguise. Rosewood has always been a BORING material that you kinda just put up with because it's the common thing.

I like ebony personally. And Pau Ferro used to be a freaking expensive upgrade. So bring it.

fedexnman, get a power soak unit and you will be able to crank your VHT to room volume yet still have THE tone.

I have two Webers, the mini mass and mass III, personally I think due to their design they have far more of THE tone :)

Instead of a power soak, I recommend getting the VHT Special 6 EL84 adapter instead:

https://www.jrrshop.com/vht-amplificati ... 84-adapter

The VHT only has a single 12AX7, which means it is either using half the tube as a phase inverter or it's using a solid state phase inverter. My guess is it's the former, which is actually a good thing, but that also means you only have half a preamp tube amplifying into the power section, and your amp ought to sound and respond much better with an EL84 than a 6V6 in that case.
