OK, so the audio signal will always be going down both chains but the bypasses will switch off the modules in one column or another and the Mixer module will select the output from one column or the other?

Got it, thank you. And I changed the Switch Time to 250ms to fade the chains in / out too.
(Now, if I could only hide the Groups on the Easy screen dynamically too
) The effects in column 1 are in Groups 1, 2 and 3 and the modules in column 3 are in Groups 4 and 5. Well, I can dream.

My advice:
Use the mutes in the mixer rather than the volume as then you will still have access to the volume should you need it later.
Put the FX into 2 modular, then bypass the modular instead of the FX. This is a lot easier as you only have 1 bypass to set up also it keeps the routing a lot cleaner and if you want to add at a later date you can put more FX into the modulars.
Also set up enables for the MPs so that they disable on the easy screen when you switch.

If you're going to use modulars (which is a better idea by the way) you may as well ditch the ratio or mixer all together. Your a and b processes are nicely compartmentalized in the modulars so just keep them in serial and mute one over the other. Of course this won't smoothly crossfade, but it's way more elegant.

Ah ha! What I missed was: I had the MMultiAnalyzers set to 'Normalize' the graphs. So the bypassed instance was not getting the audio; the active instance was normalizing the graph for the audio it was receiving AND was normalizing the last copy of the graph from the bypassed instance.
If if turn off 'Normalize' and zoom in / scroll then all is well.
