Now guys here is a very serious tip.
I will post 2 pictures and you can work out what is happening.
Load the MTurboComp multiband plugin and setup 2 bands. Follow the pictures.
If you don't have MTurboComp buy it now and change the sound of your mixes forever.

Beta tester?

Post

Sorry guys I did not realize the Multiband version is a beta. It is really amazing to be able to split the different compressors to different bands.
I am slamming the bottom end with the distressor and the rest is just a little of the varimu comp.
The bottom end is balanced with the output of its compressor.
It is the first time I have been able to get the subs sit where I want them.

Well I for one am very happy that you accidentally spilled the beans! Didn't see that one coming. I have several multiband compressors including the Melda one that has been put for quite some time but being able to pick different compressor configuration types for each band will be a first for me. Sweet. Can't wait for it to be released.
Play it by ear

It will be included with MTurboComp licence ;). So also if you own MTurboComp in a bundle, this will be included too ;).

I'm guessing that the setting you have shown are specific to your mix. Can you explain in general terms what it does to your mix to make the subs sound better?
Is it just more compression on the subs?

Yes that's basically what it does. But those settings should work. Like all presets tweak to taste.
It glues together the bottom end and allows you to set the sub level against the rest.
I am using the distressor on the bottom because it can be severe and the manley on the rest as it is pretty transparent.
Try it when the plugin is released.

I'm going to give this a try. I recently made a hiphop trap style song and I've been thinking of a way to balance out the 808 sounds, so they're more consistent.

This will be great with the Fairmeld mode too. We can finally do Lat/Vert style compression.

Does MTurboCompMB give different results than using MXXX to set up multiple bands with an instance of MTurboComp in each band?

It will sound exactly the same.

Its a little better in MXXX, as you will have access to the edit screen and there will be more flexible for routing etc.

Just checked these settings out and they worked a treat on both a rock and an electronic track-many thanks! I found myself switching on the AGC and then experimenting with the wet/dry ratios on each band and the crossover frequency. When this was set to something like 150Hz, it sounded good to back off the wet/dry ration of the lower band to let some "bounce" back in.

I'd been looking for a certain "fat and squashed" low-frequency curve in my analyser window like in some chart-topping reference tracks
and these settings literally give you a great platform to start from!
