I would like to separate a stereo signal into "Left", "Centre" and "Right", so I tried using a Crossover module in MXXX:

As you can see the 3 signals are not where I expected. What am I missing / misunderstanding?

It doesn't work like that. It cannot miraculously extract the parts of the signal that are on each sides, if it would, it would become AI! :D And it cannot do that per sample, because in most signals the L/R constantly varies, so in each band would most likely be quite a distorted nonsense. So instead the crossover disolves the mid/side signals into separate bands based on their levels.
Try using MAutopan before the MXXX. In any case I'd suggest listening instead of analyzing, I think the analyzer may be misleading this time.

Thank you, I'll give that a try.

But (my bold highlighting):
Info page wrote:Panorama crossover is another specialized tool, similar to the level crossover; it splits the signal into bands according to the panorama. If, for example, you create evenly spaced 3 bands (100%L to 33%L, 33%L to 33%R, 33%R to 100%R), then the left band will contain mainly the signals located in the left speaker, the right band will contain mainly signals from the right speaker and the middle band will contain centred signals. Please note that this doesn't mean the crossover attempts to analyze the space the signals are coming from and send them to the respective bands, which is probably what your brain would attempt.

This crossover is useful only when processing stereophonic (or surround, in which case the channels from 3 are kept intact) signals and can be used for all kinds of mixing and creative processing. For example, using a multiband compressor with this crossover can be used to effectively control the stereo image as each band would be processing a different part of the stereo image. To mention another example, a multiband delay or reverb can be used to produce a different ambience for different parts of the stereo image.

I do this by using 3 bands in MXXX and selecting the panorama crossover in the main crossover, rather than using the crossover module, I've had some strange experiences using the crossover module and found it easier to use the same function on the main MXXX crossover.

Hmmm, the 2 crossovers should do the same thing. If something strange happens, please let me know!

Will do,

I was building a preset using the mid/side setting in the crossover module and I got unexpected results, I wasn't sure of how the module should behave inside MXXX as it was my first time using it, so I just tried a different approach without the crossover module, which worked.
I have a better understanding of how the module should work now, I'll try to recreate it and if there is something that doesn't work correctly I'll send an email.

I tested the panorama setting in the crossover module using 3 bands "Left", "Centre" and "Right" and they all come out as center in mmultianalyzer. Different from using the main crossover where they are separated into "Left", "Centre" and "Right".

Arh, actually i think i remember this bug and forgot to report it. Not near my computer so i cant test it. But from memory,
Mid/Side and Panorama crossovers are the wrong way round. Can someone check this?

I can confirm dark-i's findings.

And, bingo, jmg6, if I select Mid/Side in the Crossover module then I do get three peaks distributed left, centre and right. Good catch  And If I use a 3-band Band Editor and set it to Mid/Side I get result similar to those in the Crossover module wet to Panorama.

So those two modes in the Crossover module are the wrong way round.

Try this in a spare A...H slot:

PS1 I have 5 MMultianalyzers inserted for monitoring, but 7 are listed in the MMultiAnalyzer itself. I have renamed two of them 'ghosts' Any idea how they got there?

PS2 Shift+click a module in the modular grid and it pops up straight away in its own window.
