Actually I had tried that before but Finder/Spotlight didn't locate anything. However I just did it again using the third party app Easyfind and found the location this time

\Users\username\Library\Application Support\Bitwig\Bitwig Studio\library\samples

(I thought everything went in the Documents library location, didn't realise there was another)

now I just need to be able to exclude non sample folder locations from the scan - it keeps trying to include preset locations too

For me (on Windows) the samples directory did not exist... Probably because I never made a smart collection myself before.

Never used mac. A quick search seems to indicate Apple automatically hides the user directory. This link seems to my uninitiated eyes contain the how to to unhide that folder. https://www.noterepeat.com/articles/how ... ry-folders

Great! I'll add it to the OP.

Saw you mention this in your other thread, not sure what you mean by preset locations though. If you've got a location added as sound content in BWS, it's gonna scan all the sub-directories too.

Forgot. Created the samples folder myself and everything worked just fine...

Just add that it's a hidden location by default so they have to unhide library first

Yes but presets and samples are different kinds of sound content and Bitwig should not lump them together. In the samples tab I just want it to scan my samples folders, not every preset content folder I've added too as that just creates clutter and makes Bitwig scan irrelevant files and locations (some of which do contain wav files but not things I would want to include as part of a samples collection)

never mind, solved.

If you create one in the devices tab it get created in the devices folder and scans for devices. Same for one created in the presets tab. So presumably it's creating one in the samples tab that creates the samples folder, it's just a pity that it insists on scanning non sample content folders too. What Bitwig should do is allow users to designate different folders to be scanned for samples from those to be scanned for presets, just as it does for devices.

it is working fine here, the samples tab only filters for samples in the smart collections here. So pretty nice, got it set up for presets and multi samples as well now. Each working good. I'm also on mac.

Maybe restart bitwig, since this needed to be done in my place. Otherwise it doesn't update the collections.
