has there been any more thought about the "rhino patch trade center", where end users could post sample sets ( to be used in patches by others), or just to upload a few patches to be voted on / collected into a community bank ?

For the time being, if people send them to me I'll put them online. The problem I see with an uncontrolled online repository is non-uniform quality. At least, if I centralize the presets, I get a chance to listen to them and send comments back to the sound designer before they get released.pummel wrote:has there been any more thought about the "rhino patch trade center", where end users could post sample sets ( to be used in patches by others), or just to upload a few patches to be voted on / collected into a community bank ?
For instance, when Tim first sent me his sound creations, there were some nice ideas but they lacked a few optimizations in oscillators allocation, user slider assignments, and other things. Eventually, they were so much better after such a few iterations, I believe it's worth filtering it a bit.

PS. What would you think if Rhino automatically tried to connect to such an online repository on startup, and download any new presets (putting them into a "new" category in the library) ?

My DAW is not connected to the net so I'm against the idea of Rhino trying to auto connect to a database.
There's always KVR or PatchArena for trading patches that don't pass the 'Tick test.

Of course it would be a user-defined setting, so you could simply turn that off...Teksonik wrote:My DAW is not connected to the net so I'm against the idea of Rhino trying to auto connect to a database.

User-defined are the magic words to me. That would be cool. Although I prefer to do things manually so it would not bother me at all to do it that way.Big Tick wrote:Of course it would be a user-defined setting, so you could simply turn that off...

i'm opposed to any auto online connections. i like to know what my system is doing. i downloaded the now freely available Luxonix fx, and when it come up it has a button for 'Check for updates'PS. What would you think if Rhino automatically tried to connect to such an online repository on startup, and download any new presets (putting them into a "new" category in the library) ?
if that button was tucked away in setup rather than on the main or splash screen that would be better
i haven't adapted to the library and maybe never will, since I kind of know what each bank is about by now. So putting them in a new category in the library would either teach me to use it or not. I guess I would still prefer banks, even if partially filled.
