I'd like to get a waves aural exciter sound. I much prefer the audio assault xctr, but don't own it. Is there a way to get something similar for vocals with melda plugins? The exciter of mstereoprocessor is not that aggressive like I want it.

Thanks and greets

No ideas or not possible? But that´s impossible with Melda Plugins:-))

Well, do you know how it works? I've built a few exciters in MXXX based on some famous designs but without knowing how that one in particular works it's hard to say if its possible, probably is pretty trivial though.

I only find the easy exciter preset in MXXX, but that´s by far not the sound I´m searching for. Where can I find your presets (names???). I need it for Vocals, to bring that higher freuquencies up, which you can´t achieve by equing.
I don´t know how they work! But there are demos, sorry!

Oh, I have not uploaded them yet and I'm away on vacation for a couple of weeks. Maybe someone else has an idea to replicate that effect, I have not tried that one. Although it does just sound like you want high freq saturation, which you can just do in multi saturate

The aphex aural exciter is indeed very simple to recreate. It needs to be used as a send effect. If you want it as an insert, use it in parallel with your dry signal.
It saturates the signal above 800hz and adds 2nd and 2rd order harmonics at lower values and then a lot of higher harmonics at higher values. It uses a tube too.
So you can make this in MXXX with a hp filter set to 800hz and then use amp and saturator. Just use amp in it's default mode and use saturator for the amount of processing.
If you want to really go the extra mile:
Waves have modelled the circuitry and ac hum. If you down load the waves demo, you can steal this sound by using test and record in convolution.

Then you're not looking hard enough. :D

I wrote a preset called something like (I'm not at my DAW) "80s Style Exciter" for MXXX. It should be easy to find.

It was based on an article in Sound on Sound magazine that you can read here:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may13/a ... e-0513.htm

How faithfully does this technique reproduce the original hardware? No idea. But my MXXX preset follows the recipe in the SoS article fairly closely.

I'd use multibandsaturator. Use the soft setting on one of the higher bands and maybe add some harmonics.

I've got impulse responses for BBE sonic maximizer, Aphex Aural Exciter and Dolby A encode & decode if anyone wants them?
I am working on a MXXX preset which I will share soon.....

I am interested on any exciter MXXX work. Can you send it to me please?

I wouldn't think that an impulse response of Aphex would be more than the equivalent of a single frame in a film strip. There's compression involved making the processing is non-linear. So convolution really isn't a solution, is it? Maybe I'm wrong - just asking.

Great question!

Ok, so the impulse responses i have are of the circuity WITHOUT any processing. Basically all the compression and saturation will be done after the convolution. Almost all hardware is not transparent and will colour the sound without any of the settings applied. I intend to emulate these exciters using the impulses as the base, then with further Melda plugins to approximate the processing and signal flow. Hopefully getting close but not exact to the original hardware.
