Wait, don't you need an OS that supports 64bit processing and not just a chip and an application?cptgone wrote:darn, just got my first laptop: a centrinogriels wrote:Seriously, if that 64-bit thing is true then I'm stoked... I just upgraded to an AMD64 machine.
i figured Win64 wouldn't arrive sooner than 2006... didn't know Steinberg was at it already... couldn't they say this one week ago?

I aint bashing any hosts. But it's funny how everybody gets so excited about rumours. It's the same thing as soon something new is coming out. "Whoa! How could we make music without all these cool features?"

Yup.. However, there's an Windows XP 64 bit beta freely downloadable from Microsoft's site. Although, I'm not sure about the stability thereof, nor what'll happen when the beta program runs out.Nonz wrote:Wait, don't you need an OS that supports 64bit processing and not just a chip and an application?cptgone wrote:darn, just got my first laptop: a centrinogriels wrote:Seriously, if that 64-bit thing is true then I'm stoked... this certainly isn't a reaction exclusive to cubase users.Banjostar wrote:I aint bashing any hosts. But it's funny how everybody gets so excited about rumours. It's the same thing as soon something new is coming out. "Whoa! How could we make music without all these cool features?"

True, and I couldn't give a damn about 99% of the new features. I do know however, that the rumoured 'Deep Freeze' functionality in SX3 would make my life a lot easier (allows complete unloading of a frozen plugin, potentially saving gigabytes of RAM), as would the extra performance of a native 64 bit app.Banjostar wrote:I aint bashing any hosts. Although I'm kind of dubious about the veracity of these rumours... The 'Ableton Live warp' feature seems kind of unlikely.

You must be kidding... otherwise I'd find this rather entertaining.

You mean you can't do that already? I happen to use Sonar, where "Freezing" is called "Bouncing" a plugin track to an audio track. Once you've done that, you can unload the plugin, or even delete the plugin track(s) entirely, whenever you feel you should. It's worked that way since at least Sonar 2. Does SX2 actually require you to keep the softsynths behind "frozen" tracks around forever???griels wrote:...I couldn't give a damn about 99% of the new features. Many apps - including Logic 5.5 (PC) have that - its not the same as freezing at all - which is why they have now brought out proper freezing in version 4 (looks much better implemented than in SX too - closer to Samplitudes perhaps?)kevink wrote:You mean you can't do that already?
