It certainy was the only way I could have completed full projects with lots of Reaktor 2.3 running in Logic 4.8 back in the day. Bounce down, bring in audio clip, move MIDI track onto a 'blank track', and unload Reaktor. This way I had the MIDI parts still, and the audio part recorded.aMUSEd wrote:Many apps - including Logic 5.5 (PC) have that - its not the same as freezing at all - which is why they have now brought out proper freezing in version 4 (looks much better implemented than in SX too - closer to Samplitudes perhaps?)kevink wrote:You mean you can't do that already? I happen to use Sonar, where "Freezing" is called "Bouncing" a plugin track to an audio track.griels wrote:...I couldn't give a damn about 99% of the new features. I do know however, that the rumoured 'Deep Freeze' functionality in SX3 would make my life a lot easier (allows complete unloading of a frozen plugin, potentially saving gigabytes of RAM)...

OK, I see a small list of features.
I assume when this is fully announced we get to see the much longer list of new bugs?

Pfft, my freeze is *BIGGER* than your freeze with my 16 out VSTi and track selectors set for the whole song!sickle666 wrote:my freeze is better than your freeze..

Exactly. Horribly overcomplicated. You have to save all the settings and restore them exactly if you unload a plugin. Not always simple.DevonB wrote:It certainy was the only way I could have completed full projects with lots of Reaktor 2.3 running in Logic 4.8 back in the day. No, you're right, it was complicated... but it worked. Ya do what'cha gotta do.griels wrote:Exactly. Horribly overcomplicated. You have to save all the settings and restore them exactly if you unload a plugin. Not always simple.

Indeed I do, as much as I dislike it.DevonB wrote:

My fault for being addicted to vast multisamples

yeah, I'm still calling it 'one-button-freeze' when Sonar gets it.
Multi-Button-Freeze (tm), and full PDC were some of the things us early Sonar users could brag about early on.
Even when freeze was announced in logic, I remember the response on teh cakewalk boards wasn't of amazement, it was more of 'wow, one button press instead of three, good ENHANCEMENT idea'
Now I'll take my Sonar fanboyism elsewhere, thanks for listening LOL

Although I will say this 'one-button-freeze (tm)' is much improved over the old school way.
and the old school way didn't release RAM, but back then VSL, QLSO, Scarbee Rhodes and <insert other top sample pack here> didn't exist either.

Well, it works OK in SX2, it's just 3 or 4 times slower than it should be. No big deal, go and make a cup of coffee and come back. And it's had it for about a year. Sonar 4 doesn't ship for another month!Alfalfa wrote: That sounds like a Steinberg feature. Finally implement it correctly and give another name. SONAR 4 has it built into their freeze function.
In any case, Sonar 4 looks very impressive. I'm going to wait and see how SX3 turns out - looks like it'll be announced this Friday at the Apple conference. If it's not a free upgrade, I'll wait a while to see how user reports are and I'll seriously consider defecting to the dark side
Then again, maybe Tracktion 2 will be out by that time, and maybe it'll have better MIDI editing/processing (a drum editor maybe?)... We'll see.

yeah, I'm excited to see what SX3 cooks up as well.
Seeing all the new mac stuff coming out reeeeealy makes me wish cakewalk suddenly finds a sense of humor and starts coding for macs

Hi ...
Can any of you Sonar fanboys tell me if you can customize ALL of the hotkeys for everything? For example, if I want the top row of numbers on my keyboard to respond like in Cubase (1-Pencil, 2-Line Tool, etc), can I do that?
Basically, can I make Sonar behave like SX in hotkey functionality?
Thanks,
(stu.macQ)

Yeah, that's what you think when you've never used it - I did so, too .....until I used it. Now I know!EricRichmond wrote:Even when freeze was announced in logic, I remember the response on teh cakewalk boards wasn't of amazement, it was more of 'wow, one button press instead of three, good ENHANCEMENT idea'

Key Bindings enhancements
"Version 4 extends SONAR's keystroke actions with access to single key functions and the transport keys now active in all views including plug-in windows
Version 4 also includes built-in keystroke emulating templates for other DAWs including Cubase, Nuendo, Logic, Digital Performer, Samplitude, and other DAWs providing convenience on cross-platform projects or for easy migrating to the SONAR platform.
You can also Import/Export your custom SONAR key binding presets for sharing/backup/transfer to other workstations".
