This has mystified me for a while but I think I have worked out what's going on.

In MXXX, whenever I added modules to the grid, the order in which they were listed in the Multiparameter Editor / "Select parameter" window looked odd to me. With, say, several filters, I was having problems finding the right module from which to select the right parameter.

Image I reckon that:
  • (a) when a new module is added to the grid it is shown at the END of of the list of modules in the "Select parameter" window",
    (b) when the preset is re-opened, the modules are listed in the "Select parameter" window" a row at a time, left to right.
As in this example:

Interesting indeed. Curious what Vojtech would say about this. :D

Yes, actually in both cases it's the order of creation ;). I suppose alphabetical ordering would be better...

I do not think so, that second screenshot does list list them in order of creation. Can someone try it out:

-- insert 4 modules on rows 10, 8, 6 ans 2 in the MXXX grid
-- open any Multiparameter Editor,
-- open the "Select parameter" window,
-- note that the modules are listed in order of creation
-- switch to another A...H preset and back agian
-- open any Multiparameter Editor,
-- open the "Select parameter" window,
-- note that the modules are listed a row at a time, left to right.

Or is it just me ;)

It IS the order of creation, but the order of creation when loading may be very different :). It's the order in which these get stored... Anyways it really doesn't matter imho. I'll check about alphabetical ordering.

Ah, I misunderstood. The "order of creation when loading" is each row at a time, left to right. Correct?

I am perfectly happy with that - now that I see it, it is perfectly easy to equate each module in the grid with its position in the 'Select parameter' list. On reflection, I do not think that alphabetical order will work (especially when there are multiple filters, dynamics or multi-analyzsers, for example).

For me, there is no need for any change.

Why don't you think alphabetical ordering would work? I mean, then if you know you want Analyzer, it will be one of the first ones (since it is A :) ). It wouldn't help you when there is 10 analyzers though :D.

You answered your own question :)

Listing the modules in the "Select parameter" window is the current order (left to right for each row in the grid) is fine, now that I (we) understand it.

But here's another idea: open the "Select parameter" browser window with the module selected in the grid selected / expanded there too:

Easy ti say, extremely hard to do, sorry... things in MXXX are really really complex...

Fair enough. For me, now that I see how it works, there is no need to change the current behaviour at all. :)
