No knock against its convenience from me, that's for sure. Still, usually what I'm 'freezing' anyway is external hardware, so quite honestly, it doesn't matter to me.

Hi again,

I'm baffled to see how much freezing could be debated here! My two cents:

1) I like to freeze VSTi:s, as I then have complete control of what they will sound like; with lots of filtering in the sound or triggered sounds (such as Virtual Guitarist ones) you can never be sure, due to timing errors. this is especially true for people with slow/old computers, such as mine.

When the person who first posted the quesion said he/she used circa 95% of the CPU capacity, well...

2) Freeze (as a option "of its own" is not available in the light versions of Cubase for instance (as far as I know). That's why I brought up the issue in the first place, thinking he/she might be sitting on a lightie. It's really a time saver.

There is no debate. "Freeze" has been around since you could record audio on your computer. Even if your host doesn't have a dedicated 'freeze' button, you can do it yourself, albeit with a few more steps. If you're lucky, your host supports macros, and you can make your own 'freeze' macro if you're lacking one.

if I remember correctly cubase had those extra little ticks in mixdown menu since 3.51.

the very thing about freeze is true :
background rendering only steinberg has it and export audio quite a few more but i believe the logic user don´t need it .
