Question About Inlined module editors on the front panel/racks

Hi Jo And Gang,
This is related to an old inquiry but I was looking at possibly upgrading to the latest Mux (using late version 5) mostly for using as a chainer as I love the layout of the Mux system. Is it possible now to launch a fully customized/resized rack as soon as you open MUX?
See attached screenshot and original query. Thanks so much!

Re: When to expect Mux 6 ?
Hi Jo,
I just tried Mux 5 and I really dig it and am considering purchasing this. Basically, I'm looking to use this as an effects chainer. I love the layout but it would be nice to be able to see the rack GUI as soon as I open the plug.
Can you tell me if there's a way to show the GUI visual of the rack on the front panel of Mux as soon as you launch the vst? I was playing around with the interface and was able to drag the rack from the deep editor onto the front panel but I only see a button. I can get the rack to show up by double clicking but I was wondering if there's a way to display the 7 unit rack as soon as you open the MUX (without having to double click on the button and having a new floating window).
I love the interface but I have the need for speed! Thanks.

That's currently not yet possible. But it's highly on the wishlist to be able to put complete inlined module editors on the front panel. Thus also racks. Will do my best to get that in MUX 6.

You mean like

-edit- to correct: https://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mux/m ... lugin.html
(though I'd have thought putting them in the user library under the appropriate Template directory might have been nicer

Cfr the other thread:
Yes that has been implemented.
See https://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mux/m ... lugin.html
NB: Friendly request: Please don't do double posts, it's double work for all of us. Thanks for your understanding

Ok. Thanks Jo!!! I'll have to go upgrade to the new version then! Didn't mean to double post. There were basically two parts to it that I needed clarification on and it sounds like they have both been accounted for in your updates as promised.

Just bought the upgrade version. Ah I just figured out how to save a startup effect. Most excellent. I'm still not able to get the expanded racks to launch immediately though without having to double click on the rack buttons. Is this possible or did I misunderstand? Thanks.

Don't save it as a FXP (=VST file), save it as a MUX file using the Save As button in the MUX editor itself. Then navigate to your MUX folder /User/Library/Mux then click New File and enter "Startup Effect.Mux".

Ah. I think I got that much figured out. It is launching as a startup effect now. To clarify what I am aiming for, I am trying to get the racks to be expanded right away. The vst now launches with the preset unlike before with the .mux extension but it looks like I may still have double click on the rack buttons (unless I'm doing something wrong which is probably highly possible lol). maybe I should ask more precisely if it's possible to "dock" the expanded rack so it always comes up instead of just the buttons.

Do you want something like the image I posted?

Hi, Thanks for following up. You rock, mate!pljones wrote:Do you want something like the image I posted?
Yes, I would like it to look like yours. In the first picture I posted in this thread, you can see that when my is expanded, it looks pretty similar to what you have.
Basically, the next thing I am trying to achieve is to get it to load in the expanded view like yours. Every time I launch the Mux, it shows up like this. You just see the buttons. See attached the last screenshot. When i double click on the buttons it expands but for workflow purposes, I would like to cut out that step if that makes sense.
FYI, this is an older screenshot so the preset is now a .mux file and is called Startup Effect.mux but other than that screenshot looks pretty much the same as what I got.

You can't have it both ways, though - if you want racks that are open, they're open; if you want buttons you can click, you get buttons you can click.
If you haven't changed your MUX, your MUX will continue working the same as ever.

Ok. I think I get it. I don't need buttons, that's just the only way I knew how to add the racks. I was routing in the modular area Audio Input - > Rack 1 - > Rack 2 - > Output and then dragging the racks from the modular area onto the Front panel. Then the button would be added by default.pljones wrote:You can't have it both ways, though - if you want racks that are open, they're open; if you want buttons you can click, you get buttons you can click.

So to get to the straight and simple how do I get the racks to show up without the button so I can save them? I only know how to do this by dragging the racks from the modular area onto the front panel (which by default adds buttons).

Thank You Jo! And Also thank you pljones! I now have exactly what I want
So I watched the video, which was very helpful. What I didn't realize is that you can drag the static portion of the rack onto a group pane. That was the critical link it appears that I was missing. Once I was able to figure that out, it was easy to create the simple chainer I wanted.
fyi, for all, it was well worth the effort. This MUX is simply the best chainer I have seen. It's really beautiful and elegant. So much so that I didn't even bother to change the color scheme or anything else.
It is simple but gives you everything you want at a moment's notice. It is fantastic to have customizable hotkeys. I can disable individual plugins in the rack with a T command to toggle process off/on. I can easily move items in the rack and delete and easy to navigate. And with two racks you can chain up to 12 plugins which is optimal for me.
We have a winner in Mux!!!
