I want to be able to monitor the shape of my waveform while I'm working on it. For example I would like to view my kick drum as I make changes to it, so I can see how it affects the shape of the waveform.

I basically want to be able to lock a waveform view to the host tempo and then zoom in at any sync level, like 1/4 for example.

LFOtool from Xfer does this very well.
Look at this video to understand what I mean:

So I had a go in Melda and sadly I couldn't get useable results :(
I used the metering section that is present in most plugins and switched it from meters mode to waveform mode. I temp synced it to 1/4. Then I zoomed into the wave and this is what I got:

Waveform (3).JPG

1. As you can see it doesn't really look very much like a waveform, I'm not sure why there are solid coloured parts to the wave?
2. The wave doesn't start to the left of the display it is sort of just randomly somewhere.
3. I cant zoom in on the X axis to get a better look at it.

Vojtech would you mind taking a look at this please? I hope there would be some way to improve it.

Or if anyone else has some tips I can try?

Thanks.

I don't think I want to spend development time on this really. This is not just a waveform view. It can show various graphs, that are often calculated in a very complex way... Some kind of sync could probably be possible, but anyways when it comes to zoomin and stuff, that would mean changing the whole concept, would take a lot more CPU and memory, so that's a no-go. I'll check about sync though.

Btw. as for the waveform, it is "absolute values", which are usually much more useful than classic waveform. It looks like the "negative" parts are solid though, which is probably a bug, but it was never designed to do, what you are probably doing. I'll check anyways.

Ok, so the solid waveform was a bug, it was simply a negative part. Fixed. And sync seems to work here. But note that it doesn't reset to the beginning, it's tempo sync, not full sync. Full sync is rather tricky to do with such a complex system of graphs.
