I threw away my old VST collection (400+ intruments and effects), I want to start over.
I need raw primitive lo-fi sound like in 1988.
Just 909, sampler and few synths...
(do I need effects at all?)
Freeware only.

basically Im looking for VST versions of old school gear like:
727/808/909, roland sh101, roland d50, juno6, korg m1, yamaha dx series, casio CZ series, akai/emu samplers.
(this time) Im in detroit techno so definitely Im gonna need some samples but I'd rather create my own sounds sampling chords from vsts.
why freeware? because I want to stay away from big names like NI or loopmasters, I don't want to sound like everyone else. I dont need big libraries or presets. I love those little gems I find on vst4free and youtube is good source of samples.

for drums:
http://marvinpavilion.ojaru.jp/en/sound/vst.html
bdx, sdx, hcx and all those drum machines are all awesome and synthesis based.
http://www.xoxos.net/vst/vst.html#percussion
clap of luxury is my go-to plugin for 909-y claps, incredibly versatile and good sounding, utopia and dystopia might fit too for 808/dr110 hats.
http://synsonic-instruments.com/
bd-909 and 808, only the kicks, but tweakable and good sounding.
http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?pl ... 10&id=2376
another 909 emu
http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?pl ... Too&id=804
seriously versatile, punchy, big but a bit plastic and boxy sounding too. a kick generator.
http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?pl ... mic&id=378 808 kick synth
http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?pl ... ak&id=1800 808 sub synth
have fun.

Thanks. I love Marvin's machines and everything from de la Mancha.
I need to check xoxos and sysnsonic plugins.
In the meantime I found some synths:

chorg ps20
dexed
dx won
hitxxv1
korg poly 800
kwop7
pg8x
phadiz

and what about the effects?
I mean:
1. what effects detroit/chicago guys were using in the 80s (apart from the built-in fx in synths or machines)?
2. what effects I could use to get that old school lo-fi sound (tape/vinyl/tube emulation)?
