After I have drawn this EQ curve:

and turned off "Drawing" mode, how can I sensibly reduce the number of points? (Other than selecting / removing them individually or in groups.)

There is a "Smoothing" panel in the Points Properties panel (right-click and empty area to see it), but I cannot work out what that does.

Yeah, I never use the freehand drawn for exactly this reason, it's impossible to manage the number of points it makes... so I put down points manually and control them individually. I agree a 'reduce number of points' feature would be good and would make freehand drawing more useful, although i doubt i'd use it much personally.

The smoothing panel allows you to reset the horizontal handle smoothing. Add a couple of points, pull on their handles to smooth the curve around the point, then click the 'clear smoothing' button from the smoothing panel. The other smoothing controls do other stuff that you can read up on in the help panel. I never use them.

No way really. You should choose - either drawing mode and you'll just stick with drawing, or you'll take the normal mode and work with it point by point.
