..but if you're not going to charge for your plugins, you might as well give away your source code too, in which case it's all free.Wow, I'm kind of in poor spirits about this at the moment. I just checked the website and in order to get a different license for JUCE, Jules is asking for $700-$1200. I'm sorry, but I just don't have this kind of money. I want to make VST plug-ins with this without breaking any kind of licenses, but now it's not possible. I'm not even saying that I want to charge for these plug-ins. Can there be another license that's much cheaper for those who want to release freeware VSTs? Maybe I'm just a bit naive.
JUCE 1.4 (with JuceAudioPlugin aka juce-vst0.2 ) Released

I guess my point is concerning all this license talk we've had. If I'm going to release the source code(which I don't mind at all), I can't make VST's. Unless we've figured out the details with this yet. I don't want to get the whole thing started again, but just want to be able to be 100% legit. Trust me, if I start making money for anything, I would hand over the money ASAP, every penny you ask for. I just want to make free plugs for now without having to break the VST agreement.
Sorry to bring the license talk up again, but I have looked through JUCE many times now and I'm so excited at the possibilities. And it makes me not have to learn all about MFC and the like with my VS.net. I can go back to DEV-C++ again. Thanks Jules for this great API/toolkit. I will still use it, but just maybe not for everything I would have liked to.

PS- I'm not doubting the fairness of the price. If I was making money off of things, I'd be the first to pay these prices. They are very fair. Just right now, I can't. Getting married, moving 7 hours away, re-starting school, etc. leaves me with not much right now.

My understanding is that Jules added a wrapper to JUCE such that you can interface with the host without yourself having to mess around with the VST SDK.koolkeys wrote:I guess my point is concerning all this license talk we've had. I haven't looked at the implementation, but in theory at least, that's your arse covered.
The price is about what I was expecting, and reasonable when contrasted with say Qt. I don;t know what service levels RMS offers for JUCE though, so I can't say exactly how well JUCE stacks up against other cross platform UI kits.PS- I'm not doubting the fairness of the price. Apart from JuceVstWrapper extending AudioEffectX. You add your own VST files. Does extending from a class that does not exist (in the distribution) count as derived from?

Well, if the VST wrapper thingy works, then great. You have just made my day. I haven't re-downloaded since version 1.0 and haven't really looked at what was added. But I will.
I hope this doesn't seem like whining to you. I do think the prices are spot on if you are making money from this. Cheers!

For god's sake don't bring up all that licensing crap again!
FYI, I've got a new version of the plugin wrapper ready that builds Mac VSTs too, but I need to release a new version of Juce to go with it, which I'll do in the next few days.

Sorry Jules, I didn't mean to bring it back up. And again, thank you for a wonderful product(Tracktion), and for releasing JUCE. You truly are a great man! And you've already got my promise to upgrade to T2. Cheers!
