Very often I find myself wanting to insert, say, a compressor on a track (usually this should be the first insert effect), just to find out that the insert slot in question is occupied allready.

In Logic you can just drag FX around as much as you like.
Something that should defenitely be adressed in Cubase.
I'm pretty sure this has been the #1 request update since I started using Cubase back in the 3.x days. The day Wavelab came out everyone was like WTF!!!! I believe Logic followed Wavelab with this feature, but I could easily have this backwards. Anyhow, its one of many things that is nearly a freakin crime that it isn't in this package yet.

In SX2 the order of the send effects can be changed, but the order of the inserts within a track or FX track can't be changed.
Yes, I meant to say insert-effects. :dog:

Anyway this is a crucial flaw and no doubt one of the things that have earned Steinberg a reputation as a company not listening to its customers. As I pointed out, though, it can be overcome with EnergyXT - insert EXT as the only insert effect and do the routing of subsequent effects inside it.

Goa Head wrote:$188 for upgrade for SX1/SX2 users. I think that is a little unfair, as I have paid for an SX2 upgrade, while SX1 users have not.
If this is true (bearing in mind there has been no official announcement) then it stinks. I only bought the upgrade from SX 1 to SX 2.2 a month ago, and I haven't even got around to installing it yet. And now I'll have to pay a similar amount to upgrade to SX 3, effectively doubling my upgrade fee from SX 1 to SX 3?

They need to think very hard about this...

Is this official enough for ya? Maybe it'll be different in the US... Geez, I hope so.

New MIDI Device Maps / Panels support direct access to external MIDI hardware with user-definable graphic editing panels. Import VST Mixer Maps or create your own editing panels, even for the Track Inspector or the mixer´s channel strip.
This is so funny, "NEW" as in a feature that was in 5.1 that we took out of SX1, promised we would put it back in one of the initial SX1 patches, denied we ever made that promise, said that we would never do them again because external gear is the devil, but we need something to make SX3 seem sexy and we are out of bullets, so its now a new feature we just invtented.

New part-based Volume Envelopes for direct control of dynamics. Fix level problems on the fly without wasting automation tracks. Then move events with their volume envelopes.
And this smells like dynamic events that was also removed from cubase during the change to SX1. Again, they swore they were never coming back because they weren't needed even though a significant number of the studio workers who used it were going crazy.

I have to admit if this is dynamic events I would be all over this upgrade like a puppy on a pork chop.

Dammit. Hopefully the UK distributors will also be more perceptive, and offer a discount for recent upgraders.

If not, maybe I'll wait for SX 4...I'm sure the upgrade price will be the same, and it'll probably be out in January.

11 pages... I can only imagine that there's debating going on, but I couldn't bear to read through it. Let me jump into the thread, though, with the 2 pieces of information I DID catch--

1. The Deep Freeze feature
2. Freely moving FX around

Aren't these 2 features that should have already been present or taken care of since SX 1? Not that they were promised, that's not what I mean..

I simply mean that other hosts had this functionality, and Steinberg could have made its user base happy by releaseing SX 1.1 or whatever, that included a working freeze feature, and didn't have an oversight like non-moveable FX.

Then they had the opportunity in SX2 to catch up with other hosts and implement these features.

I never used SX2, and don't even know much about SX 1.06, however, if these 2 features truly weren't implemented (especially by SX2.2), then it seems clear to me that Steinberg aren't doing right by their customers. They've really been dropping the ball, and it's supposed to be a big deal that they're finally catching up?

Now, that said-- there ARE some good features (external FX per track sound GREAT, if only I had hardware... good feature though, to be sure!); however, some of the rest of the big list seems a lot like catch-up and isn't impressive to anyone who hasn't been suffering with the shortcomings that are only just now being addressed.

I just placed order for logic pro this morning for school works and now
SX3 come up. :( I am a long time cubase user and
I had to choose logic for school works.

but still SX3 is tempting.
maybe I will use both but I recently I felt really bad about
cubase and mac. it doesn't go well.

Cubase is now stronger in PC.
