This is straight from Tracktion into Cubase SX3!!!!! :shock:

Steinberg have been giving Tracktion a very careful study! The in place edit feature in SX3 is identical to Tracktions piano roll! :o

Is this really from the Cubase SX3 blurb?;

"
For the first time, a native music production system combines full-featured audio and MIDI recording and editing, virtual instruments and powerful audio mixing with the added flexibility of loop- and pattern-based arranging and mixing.
"

Surely that's a generic description of any post 2000 sequencer? Am I missing something? Maybe I don't understand the significance of "loop and pattern based arranging and mixing". You can arrange loops and patterns? Woooooooooooo

A wee aside, I don't give a monkeys about the film references, but hey, christianmusicmaker, would you mind not editting the thread title every 12 hours or so? I keep thinking it's a new thread that's spectacularly busy, when it's actually the same one I read just recently, but under a different title. I can't see what purpose is served by changing the thread title at the best of times, and this particular case has no point whatsoever.

Just as a "please", y'know?

That information is from Steinberg...your wish is granted, no more thread title changes as well... 8)

Hey, honestly, I really appreciate that :D

I quite often find myself on a bus with some time to kill, and my mobile phone has a gprs connection, and a decent browser, so I check the forum. If threads change title, I think they're new, so spend about two minutes loading a page I've already seen. No offence, but it's really frustrating.

I'm deliberately not speculating about what Tracktion 2 will bring. I'm firmly in the "buying it the day it's announced" camp. I almost feel I owe Jules more money already. Just for the sheer joy of recording tunes rather than fighting with Sonar or Cubase, trying to make them do what I want, rather than the way they want to do it;

You can post fifty thousand product features for Sonar or Cubase, I'm still buying T2 and not them. They make it too hard to make music.

And it's all about the making music :wink:

Hear hear.

Just not too loud - I don't want Jules to hear that about the money thing. Can't have him getting greedy.

Hehe, that really is nicked straight from Tracktion. Looks like SX3 might be a great all-round sequencer.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Those videos are bananaz :eek:. SX3 and S4 are really slugging it out right now. Great new features from both. I like the play order track or whatever its called in SX. I swear they stole that idea from Rockum or somebody else on this forum. I think Ableton was smart for announcing L4 before SX and Sonar.

I see S4 finally has "folder" tracks - stolen directly from Cubase. That's a feature I'd like to see in Tracktion.

For those of you not familiar with the idea, a "folder" track doesn't contain any data itself, it's a container for other tracks. So for example you can have a folder track called drums and in that you have all your drum tracks (audio, midi, whatever). When you're not working on drums, you just "fold up" the folder track. It's a marvellous way of visually uncluttering a complex mix.

If all the audio is routed out via the folder track, you can also then apply one effect to all of those tracks - which again for the drums example is really handy because you can apply a single reverb to all those tracks.

Of course, midi in routing becomes a bit more complicated, if I had a midi icon pointing to a track inside a folder and I folded up the folder, where does the midi icon go? Hmm ..

Anyway, as somebody who bought S3 Producer and dumped it for Tracktion, all I can say is that I find the whole Cubase vs. Sonar war rather pathetic now. They're falling into the "feature bloat" trap and getting further and further away from the point - making tools that help the music-making process, rather than getting in the way of it.

Qbase SX 3 will be able to freeze audio and insert fx ... now my main argument for T. against Qbase users is gone ... :cry:

;)

Good old Logic 5.5.1 also has Folder tracks.

You'll have to resort to the fact that Tracktion costs less than 1/12 of the price 8)

They obviously haven't heard of Sonar, etc.

No seriously, it's a totally original idea you know. Those pioneering guys at Steinberg are just one step ahead of the game yet again. :lol:

He's just excited, is all :-o .

Haha. I can never run out of arguments for NOT using Cubase.
