I'm hoping that Version 2 is going to be blocks based.

Stupid question: Is this a work from Softube or third-party?
Because , if it is from Softube, why are they expanding Modular when they didn't address the shorcomings that people are complaing about since day 1?

There are the 4 West Coast synthesis blocks that probably come closestwagtunes wrote:This is going to sound like a stupid question, but has anybody created a Buchla 259 for Reaktor blocks? I know there are Buchla style ensembles in the users area but has anybody made this particular oscillator?

Reaktor Blocks were out before Softube Modular.deastman wrote:I will only consider this because I can get it cheaper from JRR, but I'm still on the fence. As far as I'm concerned, Softube just jumped the shark with this pricing. The landscape has quickly evolved since Modular was released. Now we have Solorack, Reaktor Blocks, and VCV as really viable competitors.
Not heard of VCV though - interesting

Yes, I just meant that in the time since Softube came out, Blocks has taken off like wildfire, while Modular has only received a few new modules. For me, the ma'ost compelling part about it is still the Heartbeat integration, but that begs for more sophisticated sequencers to make better use of it.aMUSEd wrote:Reaktor Blocks were out before Softube Modular.deastman wrote:I will only consider this because I can get it cheaper from JRR, but I'm still on the fence. I think it is safe to assume that there are parallel efforts underway. Like, one person writing new modules and one person updating the core application. Or maybe that is all one person, splitting half their time between those tasks. On a call-in, part time basis.fmr wrote:Stupid question: Is this a work from Softube or third-party?

if its a close emulation then $79 is a bargain, unless its not your cup of tea or beyond your understanding, mentioning no names

I wonder what exactly they have licensed. The name? The wavetables? Apart from that, it should be possible to model all that, without having to license anything.
I'm sure this will have its appeal to the modular freaks though. Will probably sell well. And, like VarikusBrainz, i don't necessarily feel this is overpriced.

It's a glorious addition to an already outstanding synth. 79$ for something like this is fair imo, Softube is after all in the higher end of the price bracket and they are completely worthy of it imo.

Value is of course subjective (especially with software!). SM has so far cost me £150 by buying during sales. This module will take it £200 and the completist in me will no doubt lead to this figure rising potentially much much higher. Not saying SM is not worth it but just a warning to any cash strapped hobbyists who might be considering jumping in.
Reaktor 6 is currently £169.
Just saying.

For specific styles STM is pure gold and worth every penny !
These modules are obviously carefully created and not rushed, which is what like.
This allows you to actually grow with the system and modules and master them, so every time a new module is released you understand the real impact on your sound.
Reaktor is a huge messy library of user created modules that all look, behave and sound the same.
The sound of STM is far superior to any Reaktor ensemble for these specific styles... no debate.

Bought it.
Since I don't own anything like Buchla or Serge it comes down to trust, and from what I've heard from my Softube modular and generally from the company they still got that.
There was a survey some time back where one of the questions was pricing, my answer was in the scale that they where somewhat expensive.
Also asked for more inputs for the FX-module; I want to try getting it into my 'real' modular stuff.
