Buchla 259e Twisted Waveform Generator for modular

My concern with Modular was always that it was going to cost me a lot of money. And it has/is.
[I held off until I managed to pick it up, along with the Intelljel modules, Heartbeat and Tsar-1, at very reasonable prices in the marketplace.]
Looking at the prices of modules so far I have always thought they were about $10 too expensive. My initial reaction to this one was that is about $40 too expensive. However, as I said above, I am sure that a lot of this cost is due to licensing fees.
After all, this is your first chance to own a pukka Buchla software module. If I could pick up all of their modules at 6% of their hardware price I would be bankrupt but I would probably try to buy them anyway.

First you retreat into saying it is just your opinion, but then say the above, which is not a statement of opinion... that is a universal claim that everyone playing in those genres would agree with you that Reaktor is a mess and is 100 times harder to use than STMchristian f. wrote: If you're actively producing, releasing and playing out those specific genres you know what I'm talking about.
so back it up

Your comprehensive reading is at an all time low.pdxindy wrote:First you retreat into saying it is just your opinion, but then say the above, which is not a statement of opinion... that is a universal claim that everyone playing in those genres would agree with you that Reaktor is a mess and is 100 times harder to use than STMchristian f. wrote: If you're actively producing, releasing and playing out those specific genres you know what I'm talking about.

First you are trying to make a question out of someone else's sarcastic statement, then when your intentions fail you took the time to quote me and give your confusing spin to something that is pretty clear the way I said it.
You have way too much time on your hands to debate about nonsense.
Perhaps any valuable info to share that is related to the topic ?

Rather than the 'sarcastic statement' how about justifying your own claim that "Reaktor is a huge messy library of user created modules that all look, behave and sound the same."christian f. wrote:Your comprehensive reading is at an all time low.pdxindy wrote:First you retreat into saying it is just your opinion, but then say the above, which is not a statement of opinion... that is a universal claim that everyone playing in those genres would agree with you that Reaktor is a mess and is 100 times harder to use than STMchristian f. wrote: If you're actively producing, releasing and playing out those specific genres you know what I'm talking about.

You've already been called out on that one too and failed to respond when challenged.

Usually I just don't feel like responding to "call outs" or "challenges".lnikj wrote:

My opinion is just MY opinion hate it, love it, agree with it or disagree.
I have hardware modulars and use Reaktor 6, Pulsar P900 and Softube Modular as ITB solutions.
The least user friendly and the least musical sounding out of those 3 available options is in MY opinion Reaktor 6. And despite it's huge library (which makes it automatically more messy than the limited but carefully produced options of the other two), it never really delivers creatively, musically and sonically what the other two instantly do.
STM and P900 ended up on releases that I've never heard anyone even ask or doubt if it was my hardware or not.
So far nothing releasable came out of Reaktor and maybe that's just my lack of talent

Fair enough I would agree to the extent that I find the lack of front patching a PITA; I never have enough screen estate to see enough of the back and front at the same time. However, I really don't think anything looks, behaves or sounds the same.christian f. wrote: I have hardware modulars and use Reaktor 6, Pulsar P900 and Softube Modular as ITB solutions.

But, then, I am only an amateur

I think it’s very nice and pretty cool to have access to soft modular synthesis like Softube’s. And whining about the price for some modules is pretty ridiculous. Cause having something like this at your home with tons of modules would cost you thousands and thousands of dollars. And that’s without talking about the massive space it takes, the wires, etc. Now you have access to this virtually for a few hundreds. Building up a modular synth with a bunch of eurorack modules isn’t cheap, you think people into hardware complain the modules are too expensive? $300, $400, $500 for a single module… Now because it's software it should be $5,99? Typical software spoiled child.

See, I'd actually be on the fence about getting this because the sound of Softube is so great, but the problem is, there is so much wrong with the platform itself.
The patch management system is non existent. This makes 3rd party libraries a pain to support.
The drag and drop system is horrible.
The CPU hit is ridiculous. I have a very powerful PC but still can't crack 20 modules in a patch without this thing going into spasms.
In addition to that, development is at a snail's pace.
Yeah, if you want THAT sound, there's not really a lot of other places you can do. While Rekator at least HAS a patch management system, it sucks. So Softube is arguably the best that we have out there right now. But it's far from perfect. And I just don't know if I want to invest anymore money into it when I don't even know if we're ever getting a browser for it.
To me, it's a 3/4 finished product, as great as it sounds.

That's one of Paul's best demo presentations. I love it!!
100% of his stories are completely mostly true.

I've already spent thousands and thousands on building up my hardware eurorack modular which takes up a massive amount of space. And yet I'm still complaining that Softube released a single module which costs almost as much as the entire application that hosts it.Neon Breath wrote:I think it’s very nice and pretty cool to have access to soft modular synthesis like Softube’s. I don't have the Softube Modular but I am betting that its preset management is a thousand times better than the preset management in my Eurorack system....and I have long since given up trying to work out how much that has cost.

No, sadly, the preset management isn't much better than in a hardware Eurorack system.jacqueslacouth wrote:I don't have the Softube Modular but I am betting that its preset management is a thousand times better than the preset management in my Eurorack system....and I have long since given up trying to work out how much that has cost.

Oh well, at least I don't have to worry about a CPU hit.deastman wrote:No, sadly, the preset management isn't much better than in a hardware Eurorack system.jacqueslacouth wrote:I don't have the Softube Modular but I am betting that its preset management is a thousand times better than the preset management in my Eurorack system....and I have long since given up trying to work out how much that has cost.
In all honesty though, personally, I find the notion of a software modular kind of lacking in the fun department. (and please, note, I said personally, not dissing the software experience for others)

not sure if i would buy anything from softube again simple fact is they released heartbeat with a reverb module then say heartbeat can work inside modular. But you cannot use the reverb module from heartbeat inside modular. For the priviledge it is another 269. For that kinda money i could buy a really nice hardware synth. That does not need a $1000 computer to run it properly. You could buy any amount of high end synths for that.
