if you don't pay, you don't get 4 new plugins, and you don't get new functionality unique to T-Racks 5. everything else you already own stays with you. why is this so hard to grasp?

You just need to buy/have a IK plugin, list price today $ 99,99 or more, and you are eligible for 36 plugins (MAX 5) for $ 199.
I can sell you one by € 35.

Does anyone know, regarding Total Studio Max, if the individual instruments/effects are transferable, or are they all tied to Total Studio Max, or just plain NFR.

It's up to you. for $99 your current plugins will get upgraded and you'll get the 4 new plugins plus the new Tracks. For $199 you would get all the TRacks plugins, making what you have now redundant. you could then try and sell those plugins to help offset the $199 cost of MAX. if you are happy with the ones you have, want the 4 new ones and have everything upgraded to TRacks 5, then get the $99 upgrade. if you want all the TRacks 5 plugins get the $199 upgrade (and try and sell off your other TRacks plugins if you wanted)

thanks! the mic room and Quad Image plugins seem very nice..... hmmmm gonna have to think about, i mean de-esser wise i got the fabfilter one which tops all of thede-essers i saw and 5 more eqs, limiters etc. i dunno + for reverbs i got R4 which should shoot all reverbs in the trash.

I have 432, vintage compressor bundle, reverb bundle, saturator and tape echo. I decided to go for MAX and sell these off. I used the reverb bundle to do the upgrade to MAX. I think I can make use of all the Tracks plugins. For me it was only an additional $80 to go from Tracks 5 to Tracks MAX so if I can off-set that a bit with the sale of my other Tracks plugins, then great!

This is correct. On both points. We will have T-RackS 5 at AES if anybody wants to check it out, and the release date won't likely be before that but time is indeed still running out.
