To be totally honest, that sound demo rather shows the quality of the guy who did it, than Viper's quality, IMO.
No dry sounds there. But, fair enough. The demo sounds very professional, and that's what will impress most people.

Yes, I had to do a few obligatory styles, because I have to appeal to more people. I have to keep the synth fresh and demonstrate that it has a vast array of usage. This demo will be used for the youtube video, 96khz makes no sense in this case.HunterKiller wrote:That's not bad. But from now on, do more 90's sounds, happy the track changed from today's crappy electronica sounds to something more beautiful. Also always record in 96kHz.
Hmm, I am confused. Effects are a part of the synth, I am not allowed to use them? They didnt just magically appear out of thin air, and I got them for free. I spent a lot of time developing all effects and some were very challenging to do, so indeed I will show what they sound like. Also I cannot build a castle out of shit (or I dont know how it goes in english, there is a Hungarian saying like that), which means the only way I was able to achieve these sounds is if the synth is good to begin with. There were a lof of sounds that were dry: kicks, basses, and some other things here and there.chk071 wrote:To be totally honest, that sound demo rather shows the quality of the guy who did it, than Viper's quality, IMO.No dry sounds there. Of course, i don't think there's a rule which won't allow that for a sound demo. All that i'm saying is that people should not expect to push a button, and Viper will immediately sound like that. Because everyone was like "OMG! Viper sounds awesome!". I have no doubt that it does. But, unless you use preset, it won't automagically sound like that.adamtrance wrote:Hmm, I am confused. But that is the whole point here. This is why I wrote no additional effects of extra magic, or samples or cheating was used here. Indeed if you 'push a button' and load a preset, it will sound like in the demo. I obviously cant put a whole song inside a synth, thats for everyone to figure out themselves, I only provide the tools which they can use.chk071 wrote:All that i'm saying is that people should not expect to push a button, and Viper will immediately sound like that. Great demo, I recon it will sell Viper both to the lovers of classic Virus-driven trance and Serum/Avenger/EDM fans

It makes huge difference when you record the raw wave than then convert it down. A synth running at 96KHz, sounds more precise and "hardware-like".adamtrance wrote:This demo will be used for the youtube video, 96khz makes no sense in this case.

I'm not sure I see your point here. Ofc, the presets where all elements of the synth, including the built-in effects, are used are going to sound more impressive than simple patches, but that's what these effects are made for. Viper is not a rompler, i believe you will have access to all elements of the synth and you will be able to dissect every factory preset and create your own ones sounding equally impressive.chk071 wrote:Of course, i don't think there's a rule which won't allow that for a sound demo. If anything, Virus is known for its effects, among other things. They are not an embellishment but rather an integral part of the synth, Virus TI has most effect parameters available as targets in the modmatirx.

That's a really impressive sound demo mr. Szabo, it captures that "Virus-vibe" really well. I'm really impressed with what you seem to have accomplished with this synth as someone quite new to dsp coding

This is something that always puzzled me about plugin's demos; people will complain that the tracks are too "produced". The thing is, if you want your demo track to sound good you need to mix it which means at the very least the use of EQ. But usually mixing involves other effects too; stereo imagers, compressors, little bit of delay and reverb here and there, etc.recursive one wrote:I'm not sure I see your point here. Also, the demo tracks will be composed, the better the composition the better the impression listeners will get no matter what sounds were used.
And if you do very simple demos that shows the sounds then you get emails of people complaining that they are too simple! lol

Thats why a demo version is important. I never listen to audio demos, prefering to get stuck into a synth to see what it can really do.SampleScience wrote:This is something that always puzzled me about plugin's demos; people will complain that the tracks are too "produced". I'm into sound designing as well. At first, I felt that a demo should be untouched as much as possible even by a limiter. It took a lot of my demo's sounding like a mess compared to others before it finally sunk in that people want to be impressed. They want to hear the fantastic sounds they can accomplish. They don't want to hear what something sounds like without fx or whatever. There are more people that are not sound designers buying vsti now as opposed to those who are. Impressive preset sounds are just more important now. It's been that way for years (I was just really slow to come around). I'm kind of unclear what this discussion is degrading into. I think Adam made it very clear that he wasn't duplicating every facet of a virus and it seems rather unfair that it seems we're going back in that direction.
I loved the demo. I was interested in the contemporary edm sounds, so it was spot on for me. Oddly enough, I find that it is harder to make raw, gritty, just this side of musical sounds than it is to make the really pretty sounds. It may just be me though.
