You'd need a specific plug to do it.

I wrote one for myself ages back but it really sucks. The fundamentals aren't difficult though, so if you can't find a pre-made one, and can't/don't want to program one yourself then synthedit (on PC at least) would allow you to knock together a workable solution in little time.

There are lots of midi controled gates and filters that work well in tracktion...which may or may not scratch your itch depending on what you want to do.

DB audioware had a sidechain dynamics plugin the can do gating and expansion, but I dont know if its still around.

Edit > Checked up on DBs Dynamics plug.. its Direct X, so no go.

Cheers for that

I can't get my head around how a Tracktion filter can have two audio inputs ie signal from the parent track and a side chain key from another track.

Any ideas

yup...

when you create the rack, you need to highlight the rack such that the rack properties are visible at the bottom of the screen.

There'll be two columns, one for inputs and one for outputs. Create two new inputs, and name the sidechain L, and sidechain R.

Now when you place the rack on a track, select the rack and note that there are drop down boxes for the inputs and outputs that you can select. On one of your tracks, choose the two new inputs you just created.
