Neat Trick - Route Modulator Output Through Multiparam in MXXX

This is sort of a continuation of a previous thread, but I though it warranted a fresh start.

I won't get into why I think I need this capability, I'll just provide an MXXX preset that accomplishes the goal of having a modulator produce an output that goes to a multiparameter and that multiparameter passes the signal on to the real destination.

In the preset, I have a single module, a Utility module, that does nothing. I control the utility volume via a modulator (basic LFO) that sends its signal to a multiparameter twice: to the parameter one value and the parameter one max value. The multiparameter then forwards the signal to the utility module volume control.

I don't know if anybody will ever need this, but I thought it was sufficiently interesting to post the solution here.

I do this a lot, for various reasons. However I do it differently. I just modulate the MP directly (rather than the min and max values) this way you can see a nice visual representation on the modulation happening on the MP which is useful, also I name the MP to remind me what it is (untick visible so it wont display on the easy screen)

Cool - thank you! I look forward to checking this out. My first thought was to directly modulate the MP value but I couldn't see a way to do that, thus the workaround technique of forcing it via the value and max value limits. I will be most interested in how you have set thing up here.

Post

OK, your preset did everything I wanted mine to do but couldn't figure out how to make it work. The reason, I think, is due to a bug.

If you click the add-parameter button in either the modulator editor or MP editor, you get a small window with a two-level tree view, with Global being the only thing at the top level and the Global line being selected. There is nothing in the right-hand panel.

Now, click anything else in the tree view and click back on Global. The right panel is now filled with choices, starting with Parameter 1. This behavior is why I couldn't find how to get the LFO to target the main MP value - I couldn't find it in the assignment window (and I did not try using the Learn function, which may well have worked).

This is in MXXX. I did not try it in anything else, so maybe the problem is not universal. However, would you agree this is a bug, and can you duplicate the behavior?

Post

Yes, confirmed. Same behaviour here too. It is odd, but I never reported it as it didn't really get in my way. But I suppose it is a bug.

Hmmm this one should already been fixed. Are you using the newest version? (btw. not the beta, the official release)

Ah, yes. Your right it has been fixed thanks. I remember it happening but didn't notice the fix. I guess dmbaer is using the beta?

To be honest, I have no idea what version I'm on. I know it's recent by probably not the very latest. I looked for something in MXXX that would tell me but had no luck.

What can you do to get MXXX or any other Melda product, for that matter, to reveal the version?

In the meantime, I will get the latest version and install. Thanks for the help on this.

Isn't it listed in the top left of every plugin's main window?

Ah ... so it is. I was looking for some kind of help/about function and ignoring the obvious right in front of me. Thanks.
