Fabulous news, and I've now downloaded the P5 factory presets SysEx files. All I need is my Repro-5...! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas (except not having any idea when Santa's coming...). Been playing with the factory presets loaded into Arturia Prophet-V running through UAD KORG SDD-3000 - sounds lovely, and I know Repro-5 will be a big step up from this. VERY excited about Repro-5!Urs wrote:We don't have the right to distribute those, but we will provide for a utility that converts Prophet-5 SysEx to Repro-5 presets. As you can find the original presets as (apparently legal) downloads on the internet...RichN wrote:I hope the original Prophet 5 presets will be included in Repro-5 (or made available as a sound pack).

Really? I prefer to just talk about it.abernathy wrote:Fabulous news, and I've now downloaded the P5 factory presets SysEx files. All I need is my Repro-5...! so how the hell Arturia got the right to include factory programs, then? I'd be very upset to learn Dave Smith gave them his blessing for money or otherwise. I very much doubt it, in fact. it wouldn't take Dave to play two notes on Prophet V to tell them to GTFO. or was it, how my man gavone Adam Borseti puts it - "Yamaha, those sneaky Japanese basterds" who did it? one hell of a Prophet-5 story he told
screw Arturia, I've even seen freeware SynthMaker made approximations with factory patches in it. how come YOU can't include them, Urs?! that's bollocks.

Who knows. They seem to be very much into licensing trademarks and getting okays for this or that. It's something I couldn't be bothered spending energy on.

oh well, Ingo Weidner prolly will dial in factory patches anyway, like he did for Repro-1.
I really can't imagine Dave Smith giving okay to Arturia, though. If there ever was green light given to them, it was probably before Dave reacquired SCI from "sneaky Japanese basterds". considering the timeline, it was definitely before Dave got back.
funny that I've just discovered factory hard sync patches in freeware Synthedit-made Prophanity. I doubt this ever had any licensing at all. they probably just didn't give a shit for this little Synthedit forgery and missed it.

You do understand that you can download the factory presets SysEx for free from various sites, and Urs has said we’ll be able to import them? I downloaded them here:blueface wrote:oh well, Ingo Weidner prolly will dial in factory patches anyway, like he did for Repro-1.

Do understand that. Hope we can convert banks at once. I'm not too crazy about converting 200 patches one by one. This is where Ingonator "comes in handy"You do understand
I'm just safe Dave Smith would give Urs the permission no problem if only Urs bothered a tiny bit. I mean, if Arturia got it... wheee! my grandma could get it, had she attended programming courses.
Isn't your upcoming synth that amazing, Urs?
But it shouldn't be like sad nostalgia thing, you know, melancholic and tear-jerking shit. Dave must feel young freshman all again. And then all his factory programs become yours. Power is everything.
C'mon, Urs, I thought your synths were supposed to be... what is the word they use to describe the plugins these days? ah yes, "Magical"
You are one big lazy procrastinator, my broseph Urs, but I still love you. I'm sure it makes you feel better. Now get the fockin' synth out already!

I talked to Dave. It's a bit more complicated than it sounds, there might be more obligations involved than 4 eyes can cover. I doubt he can give us his blessing even if he wanted to.

There might be issues with the original sound designers, I'm guessing. That and the Prophet "home" brand going around company hands may have complicated the legal issues, maybe.Urs wrote:I talked to Dave. Thankfully, there's SysEx import, which will solve any of those issues.

I've never seen any need for u-he to be the 'official", 'endorsed', 'with our blessing' purveyor of anything except their own brand.
The next thing people will be asking will be whether Jordan Ruess has made a video or whether Elton is using it.
SysEx import is more than enough.

There are contradicting opinions about how legal this would be. If however my name was John Bowen and I did the majority of presets for a legendary hardware synthesizer, I'd be slightly miffed if a software company bundled those with their product without my written consent. If furthermore I was Dave Smith and I paid a sound design guy for the presets in my legendary hardware synthesizer and that sound design guy also sold (or donated) those presets to some software company, I'd be miffed as well. Either way, it's a miff-miff situation.AnX wrote:Presets from an analogue synth are copywritten?
