I don't know, but I begin to not care about how authentic are the emulations and synths in general. If it sounds good for me, then this is what matters :)
+1

I've owned a MonoPoly (back in the 80s) and M1 (90s) and really like the sound of the plugins (even though they're not 100% authentic) but what I like even more is that you can easily edit the sounds on the M1 and save your work on the MonoPoly. I sold the originals after some months because they lacked those features but the plugs don't go anywhere anytime soon.

Is legacy collection no longer available for purchase? i can only find individual synths + upgrades on Korgs website.

Also check at PlugInBoutique.

The original "Legacy Collection" and "Legacy Digital" products haven't been sold for many years.

You can either buy the synths individually, or you can buy the Korg Collection 4 bundle which gives you all the old legacy analog and digital instruments, and all the stuff they added afterwards (eg Triton, Prophecy, MicroKorg, MiniKorg, Odyssey etc), at a price roughly equivalent to the price of the old Analog and Digital Legacy bundles...

Ahh, I remember buying Legacy Digital...came with that cool black Korg CD case and a dongle.

If I have the timeline right, the title should be “Still killing it after 20 years” The legacy collection was released in 2004…wasn’t it? Wow, time’s fun when you’re having flies.

Yeah, the thread itself is 10 years old!

BTW Both the M1 and Wavestation plugins use a VST3 wrapper which actually links to the VST2 file (So they’re “really” still VST 2). Meaning Korg likely has some work to do on these plugins given Steinberg’s latest change of legal terms for VST2..

CLAP support after this? :D ;)

Why just those 2?

It might apply to some of the others too? I don't know because that's all I have installed from the original Legacy Collection. :) The easy way to tell is to look at the size of their VST3.. If it's about 1/10th the size of their VST2 they're likely wrapping it and linking to the VST2. Delete the VST 2 and the VST3 will still load, but it'll be a blank UI with no sound.

I presume they did this due to the age and complexity of the code. Perhaps it'll be a simple case of wrapping it more completely using JUCE? Someone familiar with that sort of thing, and the full implications of the new Steinberg SDK, could provide a better perspective here. But, AFAIK, they'll now have to remove the VST2 at some point, given the new legal situation..

Just checked it seems to apply to all of the OG legacy collection

This also applies to the AU versions on Mac, which require the VST version to be installed to work. This is easy to see using PlugInfo and checking the plugin filesizes - the VST version is 86MB, and the AU plugin is 1.5MB.

It applies to all those first-generation Korg plugins, but not the later ones.

Good to know. I hope KORG are "on it" ... I rarely install any VST2 plugins anymore, but I do have the VST2 and VST3 versions of The Legacy Collection installed.
