I hope that means that the matching 64-bit Windows version of MAX/MSP (and Max4Live) will finally have a fully-fledged fully 64-bit fully-cross-platform replacement for all the legacy Quicktime stuff for video that MAX has been shackled to for so long.

do we need two threads on this or do people feel the two threads are sufficiently different it warrants two? I'm neutral on this tbh but I know things get cluttered so if folks want me to merge the two I will, otherwise I'll leave it be.
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

The VIDDLL video engine became the default in Windows from Max 7.2.2 onwards to remove the aforementioned shackles (though I think also available on the Mac through the Max Package Manager) - https://cycling74.com/forums/viddll-vid ... on-windowswhyterabbyt wrote:a fully-fledged fully 64-bit fully-cross-platform replacement for all the legacy Quicktime stuff for video that MAX has been shackled to for so long.

Yeah, I know about VIDDLL, but my understanding is that there's still a certain amount of stuff which still doesnt work with it, as permcbpete wrote:The VIDDLL video engine became the default in Windows from Max 7.2.2 onwards to remove the aforementioned shackles (though I think also available on the Mac through the Max Package Manager) - https://cycling74.com/forums/viddll-vid ... on-windowswhyterabbyt wrote:a fully-fledged fully 64-bit fully-cross-platform replacement for all the legacy Quicktime stuff for video that MAX has been shackled to for so long.
QuickTime

The primary change is Max’s use of QuickTime as a media layer for graphic and audio content: QuickTime is unavailable under 64-bit Windows, and has reduced functionality in 64-bit MacOS. Therefore, objects and functions that were based on QuickTime capabilities have to be rewritten to use other technologies. In the short term, this means that the following objects are not supported in our 64-bit versions:
jit.avc
jit.broadcast
jit.desktop
jit.displays
jit.qt.broadcast
jit.videoout
spigot~
