I'm a loyal customer (owning most of your plugins). But Seeing hype about v3.0 YEARS ago and THEN hype about v2.8 MONTHS ago with NOTHING ever resulting from it is silly. Just saying...

Post

I wish I had that little to worry about.

Good things take time.

Haven't you figured out yet that U-He knows exactly what he / they are doing? Would you want a U-he product that was rushed / released before it was ready just to make GAS sufferers happy? Who, of course, wouldn't actually be happy because they'd just come back here to complain about bugs, stability issues, etc. instead of complaining about the wait.

It's not u-he creating the hype though. All they're guilty of is answering questions when possible, which I think we can all appreciate.

I think you will find that what you call 'hype' is enthusiasm from u-he's customers. If you read carefully Urs is always careful to manage user expectations, especially with regard to dates.

The difference between u-he and many other companies is that there is no "We don't discuss future products and releases"; instead there is engagement with their user base, potential and actual, to collect and discuss ideas for the future.

Lol. Read the very first post in the Zebra 3 info thread, started by Urs himself, and come back and tell us who makes the hype.

That's not at all hype creation. That's merely stating what pretty much everyone knew (or at least suspected). And if you've been following you'll also know why Urs decided to make that post in the first place, since he's mentioned it a few times.

Hint: It wasn't done for reasons of hype.

Indeed. I've mentioned this plenty of times, but I applaud Urs and the gang for their openess, but it does come at a cost at times, which Urs have mentioned here and there. Hopefully the cost won't become too great at some point. I'm sure a lot of us cherish having this interaction with u-he, and their willingness to share what others won't is something we should equally cherish and make sure can continue.

This is why we can't have nice things.

And, by "this" I refer to the original post and the OP's attitude.

Luckily Urs will not be derailed.

At dinner tonight, my daughter ate the last of the onions, and my son didn't get any, so he pouted and cried a bit because he felt cheated. I distracted him by making fart jokes and all was well again.

Now why did I think of that just now?

I'm as eager for a Zebra 3 as anyone, but when I think of how far Zebra 2.5 has come since I got it, it's pretty much already Zebra 3, compared to how different other companies make their new releases. Even more so, if you consider Zebra HZ. Hell, I'd be lying if I said I've even explored the current version fully. Who here has? In the meantime, U-he has put out a lot of other great products. Were they all for me? Nope, but I know I'm not The Market. The other products were made because they were either interesting to Urs, or profit generators or both.

There are some differences between marketing driven companies and an engineering driven company. Some of those differences are subtle but they are big differences and a big part of that is intent. I see u-he as an engineering driven company and a company who are enthusiastic about what they do. More specifically, Urs is excited to discuss ideas that he's thinking about and customers who follow his every word (of whom, I'm one) love to follow the progress and and provide feedback.

However, I can understand that customers who don't follow the day to day conversations, don't have the context to see it that way. They see u-he as they see other companies and any information provided is marketing material for a potential future purchase. When they see a discussion about a product, which has been happening for 5 years, their reaction may be a feeling of being manipulated. To be clear, I think that's mis-guided.

I don't think you have to follow the conversation everyday to understand that Urs is not always wearing his marketing hat when he's discussing the future of his company's products. But I think it frequently gets interpreted, as if he is. In this case, I think intent matters. I also think that "hype" is an oft used over-simplification. One person cannot generate hype on their own.

heh... you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
