I downloaded tracktion, to try it, before I buy new soundcard and sequencer.
I'm atm using the crappy soundcard on the motherboard, but I'm going to get an asio soundcard later on.
The problems described bellow, happends no matter what latency setting I use. And the CPU usage is never above 20%. Realtime priority mode is off.
when I use some VSTi's, Trackiton suddenly goes completely silent, when I tweak some parameters in some ways. Like if I set the "Saturation" knob in "MutantKoto_v0p98p5", to it's maximum value. I have to go to the settings window and reset the audio device. Then the sound gets back, until I tweak the knob that way again.
Also, I've noticed that many other VSTi's, if tweaked in particular ways, stops the sound output of Tracktion. What is going on here? Even mda JX10, which came with tracktion causes this sometimes.
VSTi error, Tracktion error, or is it perhaps my soundcard?

This is most likely your soundcard. No matter whether you get Tracktion or not, I would recommend getting a better soundcard if you are at all serious about making music.
But until then, have you tried the ASIO4ALL drivers? They are ASIO drivers made for onboard soundcards like yours. I don't know the link, but search the forum.

I use ASIO4ALL on my laptop, but they didn't work on a friend's, so it'll depend on what kind of onboard sound you have. I think it's rather friendly with AC'97 audio.
I have to admit, it also sounds to me like it's your sound. I haven't used Mutant Koto extensively, but I've used JX10 enough, and I've never experienced any problems. I've actually never experienced sound cutting out at all.
Likely not VSTi error, probably not Tracktion error, so I'm going to have to vote with soundcard error.

well, the DX10 bit threw me for a curve. I've used mutant koto before and it's certainly possible to make it hang up like that, if it happens in an edit with nothing but an mda DX10 though, it's probably something in your setup, but the soundcard seems pretty unlikely.
You've listed how to reproduce it with MutantKoto, see if you can reproduce reliably with other synths. Also, what motherboard/onboard sound/RAM and processer are you using? The more variables accounted for the easier it is to track down the source of the problem.

Well, I just bought this AMD Athlon 2.7mhz thing, with 256mb RAM, and blah blah 
To try if MutantKoto causes the same problem for you, just try loading the first preset, which comes with it, and set the "Saturation" knob to it's maximum value, while playing something.

hi
i'm new to tracktion and i'm experiencing a weird problem with tracktion...
i think my soundcard is well configured in my "settings" (i'm using a m-audio ozone, working fine);
when i load a vsti (for example tweakbench padawan...), and play it with my external keyboard, the sound comes out dirty, as if i was using some kind of distortion...
no plugin is used onmy track, nor on the monitor out...
i thought it was my soundcard which was going wrong, so, to verify, i opened Fruity loops and tested the same configuration : it worked fine..
i opened minihost : i worked fine too..
i opened tracktion a new time : the dirty sound was here, as if it was playing 4bit/22150HZ or something like that...
so, what's up ??

I have the same problem as the last post... when I use VSTi synths with my Layla (which works fine with other programs) Tracktion goes crazy and harshly distorts my signal to death. The weird thing is, if I switch to using my MAudio 1X1 for midi and Layla just for audio, all is fine. ?? Never had this problem in any other program... I'm so happy this is being adressed a little... I've tried for a long time to fix this without any luck and without finding anyone else with the same problem.
