Zebra 2.7.2: Inconsistent attack on sound

Let's say you create a single oscillator using triangle wave, then lower the decay value to make a plucking sound. When playing single notes with a keyboard, attack of the sound is often slow and sounds almost like playing a pad sound. If you play multiple notes fast the attack becomes snappier but if you let the sound die completely and then play a single note, attack sounds slow again.
I've made sure that Envelope 1 attack value is 0.00. I also tried to set "Smooth attacks" off but no effect, only adds that expected snap to the beginning of the sound but the attack is still slow. Also no difference when trying retrigger/legato/poly modes.
I haven't noticed this problem with any other u-he synths or any other VSTi's for that matter. Is there some other setting I'm missing to make the attack sound consistently snappy?
Windows 7, host is Renoise

Tried also having reset phase ON but no effect. It happens also with FMO.
Also worth mentioning, it is mostly noticeable only when using single oscillator/waveform. Going through the plucky patches in "Pianoids" folder everything sounds pretty much all right.

Looks like my other computer at home(win 8.1) doesn't have this problem, env attack sounds consistently snappy when using either Renoise or Reason. Have to see if changing any settings help with the other computer. Thanks for the kind help!

Sounds like well kept secret.Urs wrote:Viktor tells me he sent you some information. Has that worked out?

We came into conclusion that I try to pinpoint the problem with the computer that has the problem.Urs wrote:Viktor tells me he sent you some information. Has that worked out?
Viktor's latest message:
"hm, well, it does sound strange, maybe indeed soundcard related. Good luck in tracking
down the cause of this, I wish I could help but like you suspected, there's not much I can
do about it from here."
I tried messing with some audio settings like changing audio driver and using different sample rates but no effect. The computer I have this problem with is a pretty basic office laptop with an internal soundcard so might have something to do with that. I let you know if I find any solution to this.

Hmmm, weird... does Renoise have a setting for fixed buffer sizes? Or does your soundcard support buffers of, say, 256 or 512 samples length?

You can set latency in milliseconds, I tried between 5ms-50ms. Also tried to set "Use hardware buffers" on and off.Urs wrote:Hmmm, weird... does Renoise have a setting for fixed buffer sizes? Or does your soundcard support buffers of, say, 256 or 512 samples length?
There is also setting in Renoise for plugins called "auto suspend plugin when silent". I first thought this might be the problem because slow attack usually happens when there has been a period of silence, plugin "waking up" from being suspended and taking some time to recover the sound. However didn't make a difference whether its turned on or off. Also tried setting "Use static processing buffers" and "Can run in multi processor environments" on and off.

is there some automation or midi learn?zoikkis wrote:Looks like my other computer at home(win 8.1) doesn't have this problem, env attack sounds consistently snappy when using either Renoise or Reason. Have to see if changing any settings help with the other computer. Thanks for the kind help!
does starting with a fresh new project on the problem computer help?

I've come into conclusion that the sound card is the main culprit here. I made a test where I had Spotify playing quietly on a background(using same audio output as Renoise) and then playing with Zebra, all attacks were consistent and snappy as long as there is any audio playing in a background. Also, I can notice some of the problem with some other VSTs if I create similar plucking sound with a soft triangle/sine waveform. It's just more pronounced when using Zebra for some reason.
