Regarding another recent plugin, how tough would it be to up the number of bands of MLimiterMB to 25 .... (I think you know what rival product I'm talking about!

Well, all melda plugs use a shared crossover system... so you'd be updating ALL plugins to X bands. I admit, I've considered asking for a high band number in the past... but really, after a point you're better off going spectral. Have you tried MSpectralDynamics?mcbpete wrote:Regarding another recent plugin, how tough would it be to up the number of bands of MLimiterMB to 25 .... Aha good shout, just opened it up and yep - perfect alternative way of doing things. Thank youvectorwarrior wrote:... but really, after a point you're better off going spectral. Have you tried MSpectralDynamics?

Of course, I don't /need/ to upgrade, but they have also stopped support for version 1.x. It's my own fault for not reading their support policy first, looks like they only offer 12 months of support on all products.Oliver.Lucas wrote: There's no need to buy if you don't want to. At least they offer upgrades from lower versions and you do not need to subscribe for virtually halted development like in AVID land.
No argument thereOliver.Lucas wrote: Of course Melda is the best here from a customer point of view.

Ugh, more bands?
I'm afraid while it wouldn't be that hard, there are impossible backwards compatibility issues, plus it would take hell of a lot of additional memory, while 99.99% people would never use it at all. But besides MSpectralDynamics you can make it happen in MXXX with a little dedication

Unfortunately, I agree. (“Unfortunately” because I bought it.MeldaProduction wrote:I'm afraid I'm less and less impressed by iZotope and their neverending "revolutionary" thing blablabla. Before these were simple tools for the job, not my thing, but I'm fine with that. But now they are the same, just say how revolutionary everything is, give it some cool name, and it's just long term spectrum analysis...(yeah, I'm talking about this "tonal balance" thing...) Checked it out and sorry, not impressed.
I think this Visual Mixer should be in a DAW. I don’t want to control level and panning in a plugin, leaving my DAW mixer unused! (Plus, of course, the Izotope panning only works for stereo tracks, which is very limiting.)MeldaProduction wrote:As far as visual mixer, yes, that's planned for the mixing thingy. But far more powerful...
This makes me wonder if Izotope is slowly moving towards offering a DAW. And also if our “mixing revolution” won’t also be a full DAW.
Yes, but I never saw the point of this feature. I need help to know if it’s guitar or drums???MeldaProduction wrote:it's imho easier to select you are processing say vocals or something, than waiting for the software to analyse something ending up with something completely different. But in this case I like they at least tried! It's a very difficult task after all.

These izotope plug-ins are well marketed and have a good looking GUI. The plugins are a selection of plug-ins accompanied by and glued together by "One Click Wizards", which is in my eyes extremely appealing to "amateurs"/"hobbyist or semi-pro people that not yet have the experience or knowledge or the patience to get "good" mixes themselves
I think all the building blocks are there in the Melda Universe. What is different to izotope is that there's no "one click wizards" or the complete integration of everything. But I think it would be a good thing to have such wizards on top...
I don't know whether my idea is silly, but many many plugin providers support scripting their plugins, i.e. reaper, bluecat, even U-He Zebra has scripting in their presets. Would it be possible to add scripting to MXXX? I'm having a feavor dream of an "scripted" analyzer in MXXX that can build and configure a plug-in pipeline from the analysis-results regarding a reference track...
I know Melda, you have plenty things to do, and I bet scripting is not on the top of your list. I just wanted to think out side of the box, because I myself find the izotope stuff attractive as well, but I won't buy it because I know I have everything there in the TotalBundle. And I can live with not everything is wrapped in that shiny parcel paper...

Well, scripting is very unlikely. That's an extremely rare thing to use... And while it may be simple with simple plugins, imagine what all would need to be implemented for scripting in Melda plugins
.
Anyways iZotope stuff have no scripting or anything, they are just made very simple, just a few features, done. That's what people like. For that we have the active presets and I actually it works very well. But sometimes I feel like just the fact that you CAN access the Edit screen makes some people crazy. Like they don't like to use the Easy screen, because there is something "more powerful", but that more powerful thing is too complicated for them

I really hope melda never adds this dumbed down, one click stuff. I'll never use it and there's plenty of competing products in that space.
Melda's strength and uniqueness comes from its power and flexibility, I hope that's where it's future lies; there's only so much time to develop new features, I'd rather have more compelling tools and effects than this.
Just my perspective

Yes but we can create dumbed down 1 button wonders thanks to to the configurable interface Vs edit mode and the crazy input analysis to modulation possibilities, best of both worlds.vectorwarrior wrote:I really hope melda never adds this dumbed down, one click stuff. Though I do think a couple more bands would be useful especially in MXXX if anywhere.
(ps I just went Complete, thanks Voj for the amazing deals I've had since getting the Creative Bundle for peanuts in 2010

My pleasure, thanks to you!
Now, what do you mean "couple more bands in MXXX"?

I envisage a band splitter module for MXXX with unlimited number of bands, or the current number of 6 bands but the user could set the overall upper and lower bandwidth of the whole module.MeldaProduction wrote:My pleasure, thanks to you!

You've created a Modular module that has no band splitter so how about a band splitter on its own, so we don't have to load a sub MXXX within MXXX.

Yeah, i've needed to make a 16 (or more) band setup in MXXX and it required me to make nested crossovers using modular notes. If you use linear phase crossovers it doesn't sound too bad. The problem with making crossovers have more bands is that you run out of 'lanes' in MXXX, as there's only 6, so you HAVE to use modulars.
Of course, the bestest thing EVER would be some sort of 'spectral crossover'... that has a crossover with a userdefined number of spectral bands... and any module you place after that would be processed by each of the bands. But... that would be kind of crazy for the CPU. My end goal is to have a spectral version of MXXX... something with the flexibility and power but with the awesome sound of spectral effects. I'm hoping MYYY is the answer to my prayers, but it's probably a long way off.
