Not a race? Have you been keeping up with the Zebra 3 thread?

My point is we already got 2 "non-original" mod slots and that's on top of the non-original velocity to amp/filter knobs (not on RePro-1), the 8 voices polyphony (versus 5), the per voice distortion, and built-in effects. Now there's a call for more 2 more mod slots. So the question remains: when is enough, enough?

Some people are going to want more mod slots, some will want more voices, someone will ask for voice panning, somone mentioned a VS mode, whereas I want tagging as part of the save process, and someone else wanted graphic tags they can save with patches, etc. None of these things are necessarily bad ideas, and each of them might make the product better, but no product would ever be complete if we all got that 'one extra thing that would make it just perfect.'

Now there are folks saying "well, if you can do 2 mod slots, you can do 4." Even if there were 4, someone would inevitably say, "8 would be perfect, please think about adding 4 more." Then Hans Zimmer would undoubtedly call and say, "Urs, I need a custom version with 16 mod slots." And then people on KVR will find out and say, "if Hans gets 16, we should too!" Next thing you know you've got a modular CEM synth that's nothing like a Prophet.
Sorry but this argument is a bit silly as you could use it for absolutely anything, such as:
-Why bother having two mod slots? Where does it stop, someone will just ask for 4 so might as well not have 2 at all.
-Why have velocity on the filter and amp envelopes? Then some will ask for a direct velocity knob for the res. Where does it stop?
-Why have those 5 effects? Someone will ask for a flanger and a granular delay... etc.

There's a big difference between 2 and 4 in this case. Like I said I've never ever looked at a synth and thought "I wish it just had a couple more modulation slots". Not even with Diva. But for repro, 4 compared to 2 would make a world of difference with polyphonic expression. And it wouldn't affect those who didn't want it at all. I totally understand Urs focusing on getting it out as is first, I just hope it comes at some point in the not too distant future.

Yep, several of us asked for four mod slots some time ago. Not that it's going to make any difference to my decision mind you, I already have Repro, so, it is what it is. But four is a reasonable request from two.

But Repro-5 is not Zebra3, and you can´t make such aseverations, your argument are full of fallacies!

So, when you asseverate, you make an ass out of U?

I say both Diva and Repro should have a real modmatrix, its just easier to work with for whatever needs one might have for a sound, or for tweaking a preset to ones needs.

RePro has a real mod matrix... it has 2 mod slots

Post

I would like 4 slots on Repro-1, but not on Repro-5 because polysynths don't deserve it.

Please take in mind, there are already pretty cool modulation options even without the ModMatrix. The idea of a ModMatrix was mainly founded by counteracting a thing that's lacking in software. Which is, a monosynth is commonly played with one hand while being edited with the other.

Whatever you say, I want the opposite.

The 1978 RRP for a Prophet 5 was $4,595. That's about $18,000 in today's money. 95% off RRP would be $900. 8)
