HHaynes wrote:That's the whole thing - the GESTALT of features is what will make SX3 a killer app. Add to that the fact that it's 64-bit native compatible, and you're in TOTALLY new territory.

Anyone whose bashing SX3 is simply complaining about sour grapes.
I suggest you actually go read the 64bit link

64bit Q&A

There is no Native 64bit support. There is only the ability to use 4gig memory on XP-64. Which is exactly the same benefit every other application that runs in the 32bit win wrapper on XP-64 will have the ability to use. In other words, the sum total of effort to add this "feature" was typing that Q&A.

I'm mixed on this. Although it would be nice if they went out and licensed high quality FX for the package, I'd just as soon they quit developing plugs as a business and focus on the DAW.

Also, I'm pretty sure those plugs are not there for you to do pro studio projects on, but are there to give the new users something to learn on as they break into the environment.

Most of the other DAW's blow Cubase away in regards to the included plugs. Now I will say I have faith in Steinberg to do something about this, but oh well maybe next time.
enough of who's-blowing-who, but they should do more on the fx...

i'd say it would be common-sense to provide some decent-quality breadnbutter fx, so you could finish pro grade project (without superlatives) only using in-built stuff. like with samplitude. or they could provide something like uad - why not?

and on fx side, I'd like to have a dead-simple-nobrainer k.i.s.s. sidechaining.

and, oh, a cute little blonde for me included in every update box :P

Interesting that you find rather good to be an expression of greater value than good... I myself feel rather G to be only somewhat G, so that a step from good to rather good would be one from nearer perfection towards imperfection...

Ah, but never mind my, um, pedanticality, just playing with insignificant details here... :D

HHaynes, i suggest you read that link. I linked it for you earlier. Cubase SX3 will NOT be a native 64bit app. It will be run in the 32 bit shell just like every other app. He says so in like Answer number 5.

This was commented on back around page 12 of this thread.

The reason I made a poor attempt at a jokey comment was the use of both "native" and "compatible", which sounded like a marketing style feature.

i.e.

Customer: Is the application 64 bit native compiled?
Marketing: It's 64 bit native compatible.

Customer: Does this computer come with a Gigabyte of RAM?
Marketing: It's compatible with a Gigabyte of RAM.

Customer: Will this product make me lose weight?
Marketing: It's compatible with slimming and weight control as part of a calorie controlled diet.

etc.

Dude - you're absolutely right - my mistake.

My presumption that is since they claim it to run on WinXP64, then it is compiled with a 64-bit compiler for that OS.

The primary concern I have is that the release of SX3 appears to have been a reaction by Steinberg to the announcement that Sonar 4 is on the starting blocks. It’s reasonable to infer from this that Cakewalk is launching because its QA is telling it that it can, whereas Steinberg is launching because the market demands it must. It’s also reasonable to further infer that Sonar is the primary market competitor to Cubase in Steinberg’s market analysis.

Consequently there must be a clear and present danger that Steinberg is, yet again, shipping dodgy code just to keep the competition at bay. The question is, can Steinberg afford clucking defiance for the very first time, again, as the feature-sets of all hosts rises and converges? The war against Sonar 4 will be fought in customer service.

Oh yes :D As I type, I'm working with a "well-known" SXer on just such a thing. Kinda sad for a Sunday, though, isn't it
