Here's seven Spectral sounds and seven Thorn sounds, mashed with BFD3.

Steal at the price. And very good for making futuristic sounds and easy to dial in by means of OSC fm

My last point on Thorn, since this is not the correct thread. The GUI sizes were fixed. Within a week of its release, there were several instant fixes released in a .01 because the dev is that involved with the community which is awesome.
Back to Spectral...this is a beast of a synth. I tend to hate comparisons between them, because there is merit in most of them. Part of having so many synths is that folks bring near finished projects to me, and I never know what they are using till I load the project. This has actually turned me on to several synths I would have never thought about (such as XILS stuff).
Spectral was an instant hit with me. Fresh, modern sounds that fit VERY nicely in soundtrack work. And because of their brightness, they work a nice contrast with strings and horns that can make a track really pop.

ok, lacklustre is possibly a bit harsh, more like soft.layzer wrote:lol like anyone else notices any "lackluster in Spectral.sqigls wrote: Spectral is ok, but each of the parts are a bit lacklustre.
When I think of a more fitting adjective, i'll be sure to post it.
I'm not trying to say it's bad. It's just not so tight.

I'm glad you brought this up. I have contended many times here that if I posted a track with 20 different synths, nobody could tell with absolute certainty which synth was which unless I purposely made it blatantly obvious like included Omnisphere's burning piano patch isolated with a neon sign around it screaming "Burning Piano, Burning Piano!"thejonsolo wrote:My last point on Thorn, since this is not the correct thread. Piano, bass and drums with 5 instances of Thorn and 4 instances of Spectral on this one. Was in the middle of a Christian Rock CD so came up with this one. Even got the synth name in the title.

Thorn In The Side Of The Lord
Ain't a day go by
Where I do not try
To show my God how much I love him
Ain't a breath I don't take
Ain't a move I don't make
To show my God there's no one above him
I poke at him and prod at him
I never leave him be
I grab onto and just like glue
I let him know just how much he means to me
I will be the thorn in the side of the Lord
Singing out his name I do dare proclaim
I will be the thorn in the side of the Lord
Praying everyday for my soul to save
I will be the thorn in the side of the Lord
Come what may
I will keep at it
And I will not quit
To show my God that he's the one Lord
I will stand my ground
With a joyous sound
Because life without him I just can't afford
I whisper in his ear all day
I constantly profess
I get down on my hands and knees
I let him know that all my sins I do confess
Repeat Chorus 2x

Yes, very happy too! I also finally got it, shame I didn't do it already years ago. Been playing with it a lot during the weekend, and it's simply awesome. Super deep, yet accessible, and the implementation feels very complete. I've been looking for a digital poly for a long time, even considered hardware options, but Spectral fill the role perfectly and completes my instrument setup.
