Yes, 2.8 is going in a more polished direction, while Zebra 3.0 is a lot about improving the waveform / envelope editing features.jbw wrote:Are there going to be significant interface changes with version 3?

That's something I have in mind, but both of these examples are rather basic. I was thinking more along the lines of CabelGuys' o—o tool combined with a Y-axis constraint which works on *every* segment, not just horizontal ones. As for resynthesis... there might be an option to splice a sample into grains and use these as wavetables, much like wav2zebra or BlueberryThing do. I'm sure we'll have an option for more than 16 slots this time. An approach similar to Alchemy or Harmor is however far beyond the scope of Zebra3.
I find exceptionally nice waveform editing and manipulation tools far more interesting than any form of wavetable import.

It's not an exaggeration, it's totally VERY useful. I'm using that for UVI Falcon's MSEG's, it's a godsend!

That might be true. Sure, that's useful, too. But I was thinking more along the lines of locking the groove of the modulation to, say, a drum pattern, or whatnot - so pulling the rhythm from MIDI files is just as valid as doing so from audio (depending on how you do your drums - recorded live, or using piano roll).

Can you also support a free-drawing mode, so that one can draw a waveform in one movement (like in ACE/Bazille)?
Technically this should be very similar (draw to buffer (visible data), analyze it, render partials in background (invisible data))
I mean as an alternative method only - the vector oriented construction of waveforms is very useful too of course. It depends on the wave, which method would be easier to use.

That'll of course be there, too. Just like it is in Zebra2 as well (Geo/SpectroBlend). The bit more advanced tools in ACE/Bazille (and Zebra2's ModMapper) may be a hint at what kind of improvement we're aiming for in Zebra 3.jme-audio wrote:Great! Sounds awesome. Ive been personally toying with the idea alot about FM-izing an existing sound, i dont know how possible that is (I have one idea for resynthesis but its pretty involved and probably requires a full 6 operator setup or more) but would be cool to have for example an osc effect that does FM-ize. Another thing about FM, the easy page in FM8 is pretty amazing, would be nice to have some macro control over FM oscs, but i guess it would be a cross module thing, might not fit the z3 paradigm, i guess it could be manually built into a patch though.
