Personally, I think it’s a great help and a helluva learning tool for those of us (ahem) who could be a little stronger on our formal theory and training...
Are folks using the Pattern Generator? Any examples you want to share?

I just started looking at this again. What a well crafted feature! I don’t see many posts about it though.

The pattern generator is the only reason that I bought Waveform. Had never been a Tracktion user before and already have a good DAW that I like just fine.gesslr wrote:I just started looking at this again. What a well crafted feature! I don’t see many posts about it though.

I tried the demo and was sold. I had been looking for something that would make composing with MIDI a bit easier. If you already know a bit of music theory, it really removes the tedium of clicking all the notes into a piano roll. Set your key, choose your chord progression, and off you go. You can easily create multiple tracks that stay in key. The bass line generator is crazy!
I wasn't looking for something to write a song for me, or to magically make any note I played on my keyboard always play in key. But it's nice to have a framework to work in where you can set the boundaries you like, and work within that. Good use of a computer program.
It could use a few improvements, but I am very happy with the first version.

It would be great if the chord generator suggestion boxes were 'clickable' as a way of adding chords to the sequence.
It would be great to see more opportunities for 'auditioning' chords before adding them to the sequence.

Yup, thought that before, keep forgetting to mention itDCPImages wrote:It would be great if the chord generator suggestion boxes were 'clickable' as a way of adding chords to the sequence.
If you're looping the x bars to hear what the progression sounds like, doesn't that already do what you want? Might be nice if you click on the chord box once, and it makes the sound of the chord, via whatever VST is on the track, but if you double click on it, it adds the chord to the sequence though ...DCPImages wrote: It would be great to see more opportunities for 'auditioning' chords before adding them to the sequence.

Yep. looping does help, but not so much for choosing from a long list. I like the single-click-to-audition and double-click-to-add. The problem is mainly with the lists of chords which for most people is probably not as meaningful as being able to hear them before they select them. Maybe the chord list should be pop-up panel using the single-click-double-click idea?
