LOL... nah, we're just terrified that certain individuals will display the same incompetence in testing Repro-5 as they displayed when they tested Repro-1... just remember that magazine which mysteriously had stereo (!!!) files for Pro-1 and mono files for Repro-1.egbert wrote:My God, you mean they're gonna "swift boat" the Repro-5? Heh.
Today on GS someone bumped a P5 vs P6 challenge thread from 9 months ago.
A challenge to make this sound:
Prophet5_27_2.wav from
http://www.siliconbreakdown.com/prophet5.html
You can hear my final attempt with Xhip freebie in this post:
https://www.gearslutz.com/board/electro ... st12443493
Or here:
https://app.box.com/s/6jws06cw7liwc3uhz0vrhl8yb9153z3t
I am fairly sure Repro-5 can do better, but can it really ?
Challenge mode !
Show me how Repro-5 wipes the floor with every other VA.

I'll leave that up to the enthusiasts. Finding the perfect amount of resonance for this patch will be difficult. The non-Glide version sounds to me like lower cutoff, faster Decay and slower envelope Attack than the original version with Glide.

I hope there are enthusiasts like me among the beta testers.
I only took the bait in that thread, because i liked that sound very much and was curious if software can come close or not.

It sounds noisier to me than Repro-5. So I guess that won't necessarily work...Mutant wrote:Sure.Urs wrote:I'll leave that up to the enthusiasts.

I did start with some modular myself a few years ago but i didn't have enough time to set up everything properly so i gave up.Urs wrote:Still on my wish list, but currently too immersed in Eurocrack. That stuff is dangerous.D-Fusion wrote:getting a OB6 or Prophet 6
Now i only use Hardware synths with standard layouts which i work much faster with + i can save presets on and sounds different than all the vst's i own.
Best of both worlds as they say

Isn't there some noise trim pot somewhere under the hood ?Urs wrote:It sounds noisier to me than Repro-5. So I guess that won't necessarily work...Mutant wrote:Sure.Urs wrote:I'll leave that up to the enthusiasts.

This is what happens when people complain about demos. Nobody wants to post them, and I don't blame them.

Just for your info, the original 1st Bank 27 is a completely different sound.Mutant wrote:Heh.

What's in the Youtube video matches the preset in our P5, less the delay/reverb which seems mandatory for Youtube presentations.

From what is written on that page, i understand that his P5 version is not the same as in the video (just woke up, so my brain might not work at its full capacity hehe), because in the part 2 of that video as he goes above preset 40, it continues to 41, not 01 with a dot after 0.Urs wrote:Just for your info, the original 1st Bank 27 is a completely different sound.Mutant wrote:Heh.

So probably #27 sounds different on different versions, or he modified it, saved over the factory preset and forgot.
Which is not very relevant for the challenge, it should be easy enough to get to that sound from INIT preset.
Pity no one took the challenge, but it is OK - looks like i will have to wait for a demo to satisfy my curiosity.

It's not as easy as it sounds. Getting the right mix of waveforms and pulsewidth would be much easier to start out with from the actual preset.Mutant wrote:From what is written on that page, i understand that his P5 version is not the same as in the video (just woke up, so my brain might not work at its full capacity hehe), because in the part 2 of that video as he goes above preset 40, it continues to 41, not 01 with a dot after 0.Urs wrote:Just for your info, the original 1st Bank 27 is a completely different sound.Mutant wrote:Heh.

I used 2 saws at same max mix level for mine, so i had no troubles with pulsewidth.
Your example sounds very good, maybe the LFO effect was a bit too audible right at the start.
But it sure does sound analog and beautiful.
Thanks.
