Right. That's why I can't go stomping my feet and cursing Ableton. It's a great update overall for many users I would assume. They added stuff that I'm sure that a lot of people would really appreciate and I'm happy for them. Just not what I've been waiting for them to add to Live for years and years.headquest wrote:I thought that from the video too - just some more devices (that I don’t need) and some minor workflow things.
Then I read the full list at the bottom, and when you combine all that stuff it’s actually a fairly huge update to the core programme and functioning. So I’m in, I think it’s a very good upgrade taken as a whole. It’s just the video really doesn’t do it justice.

That definitely has some things of use for me that I'd previously used 3rd party workarounds (e.g. multiclip editing), that and more native Max integration and ... well gonna upgrade for sure. One feature that STILL doesn't seem to be present that I think has been requested for years and years now is the ability to type exact values in automation points without spending time trying to just get close enough with the Ctrl/Command+Drag method currently employed.antic604 wrote:Nice rundown of workflow enhancements:

Yea It really has not caught on. I have no idea why Autotune went to it exclusively...headquest wrote:If I understand correctly, VST3 has been something of a flop, no?Spencer Maddox wrote:Funny that you mention that. I'm in a big Facebook group of ableton live users and i made a poll back in September asking the community what they wanted in A10.dermage wrote: Yes there are good new features and improvements, but one of the basic things (VST3) in my eyes should be there and needs to come, otherwise Ableton will lose customers i guess.
All major DAWS have this feature in the meantime, I don't understand what the problem is.
vST3 support was quite literally at the bottom of the list. The top results being piano roll enhancements, fixing the infamous pitch glitch, etc.
I don't think as many people care about it as you think they do. I mean that respectfully of course. It would be nice to have but I never Even use vst3 honestly. I imagine many are the same.
I thought it was very telling that Propellerhead, adding VST from scratch, didn’t bother with it. What an odd choice, I thought … and then, I can’t remember the exact reason they gave, but it amounted to VST3 really isn’t taking off, and they didn’t see it as a platform worth doing.
If Ableton are ALSO ignoring it, I think it gets somewhat consigned to Steinberg Cubase, plus a couple of others that added it as a tick list thing rather than because it has much of a future… Ableton and Reason are fairly big programmes in terms of mass recognition and appeal...
Many top plugins haven't even added a vst3 version yet. And its been out for a long time now.
The post above this is likely bait, viewer discretion is advised.

Live 10 is a step to the right direction, IMO.
One area I wish Ableton had invested more, is MIDI editing/piano roll editing and automation. According what is presented, they have done something, but not enough. E.g., I think the very basic re-sizing and navigating in the piano roll is clumsy. And I can´t right a way see big advantages in the new MIDI-clip multi-editing -function.
And does the automation edit work better now, e.g. the line bending, had to say according to the presentation material. What about the tempo change automation, still pain in the neck?
But the final verdict may change, once you can check the Live 10 in the real work-flow situation.

It seems that the upgrade price from 9 Standard to Suite is currently only slightly more expensive than the upgrade price for 10 standard will be. As far as i can tell upgrading to 9 Suite now will enable a free update to 10 in February.

some other interesting things that are buried a bit/i hadn't seen mentioned:
- the wavetable synth has cytomic filters. which i suppose is expected but is very nice (i wonder if he was involved with pedal, based on his recent work - the scream is fantastic)
- new pen/tablet mode.
- the shaper tool. Does this mean that ableton has finally fixed the remaining automation delay compensation issues? that required some special workarounds in things like volumeshaper.
- second window? did i miss that before? I think that was an option you could enable manually, but now it appears to be standard.
- drum rack pad audio outputs can be sent to a drum rack return. drum racks can be fully standalone now, with effects and everything.

Saw the video. Looks boring. Not tempted to go through the torture of upgrading all my plug-ins etc to suit it. If it was a cheap upgrade, maybe.

Login to see your upgrade price.
I'm getting £159 for Standard 10 and £359 for Suite 10.
Current upgrade price for Suite 9 is £191 (it's cheaper at JRR with the FORUM code).
