I own a Lite license which I've never used (came with a soundcard).

Is it the same as Ableton Intro?

Same. Although I'm really attached to 8 so it'll be a tough change..

No but you can upgrade to Live 9 Standard or Suite for less than paying the full price and also get the 20% off the upgrade price as well as the free upgrade to Live 10.

Thanks, I'll make an account to see how that works out.

I did just that. Upgrading from 8 to 9 + 10 is good value imo ...... especially if you're interested in M4L, there's quite a lot of kool, affordable M4L devices that are LIVE 9 only ... and of course I suspect going forward any new M4L devices could very well be LIVE 10 only, not to mention M4L is promised to be considerably more cpu efficient and faster in LIVE 10 ....

so, if M4L is something you're interested in, upgrading now is a no-brainer imo.

I suspect (see: hope) they're holding this back for a 10.* update to coincide with a PUSH 3 hardware update (if not a new hardware product entirely). If they're developing a PUSH 3 hardware update with full MPE in mind, or another hardware product that is using full MPE, maybe it makes sense to hold back full MPE support in the software until the hardware is ready .... otherwise they're just helping create a larger market for their hardware competitors, giving the competitors a chance to strengthen their foothold and increase their numbers before Ableton has a chance to present their own fully MPE capable controller - and that would be a bit of an own goal, no ?

I'm disappointed LIVE 10 will seemingly not be coming out of the gate with full MPE support, but in trying to make sense of it, this is the (hopeful) conclusion I have come to. they sell hardware controllers now - so they're going to prioritise their own success in a nascent market (full MPE), and holding back full MPE support in their own software until their own (full MPE) hardware is ready seems like a prudent course of action.

not trying to be an apologist, and also aware that existing PUSH controllers have poly-aftertouch. also not an expert on full MPE controllers, so set your flamethrowers to a low sizzle, thx.

It may also be that they just do not consider it a significant enough market to invest the time in yet... both for the software and hardware.

A Push 3 that was fully MPE capable would cost something like $1200-$1500 bucks. It would have to be a new product in addition to Push 2.

Glad to see Live 10 coming out, but am I correct they have done nothing to improve the plugin management? If so, that’s crazypants.

Also good idea is to:
change preset mgmt
change sample mgmt
allow remove/hide factory content

Speaking of preset mgmt: on windows I simple using shortcut folders trick.
Murderous duck!

I use the shortcut trick, too, but it is still a mess.

Do they specifically say it's not there? I can't imagine them ignoring it too much longer.

Seems like they do actually pay attention to the suggestions. Pretty nice improvements.

of course that's a possibility. but 'yet' must be framed in what appears to be their upgrade cycle of 4-5 years ... One can allow for the possibility they don't view it as a significant enough market yet, but between now and 4-5 years there's plenty of time for them to change their view and produce a 10.* update that comes with full MPE support, as I suggested.

Considering the time it's going to take for the next major upgrade, I just can't wrap my head around the notion that we won't see them embrace full MPE in a 10.* update ... whether they planned it like this from the beginning, as per my previous post, or whether it is a reaction to the market in a year or so ... It is just mind boggling to imagine them not providing full compatibility with this technology for 4-5 years. of course that wouldn't be the only Ableton development decision that boggles my mind.

My feeling is they'd make a new product, but I see enough PUSH users on various forums and groups bandy about the notion of a fully MPE compatible PUSH 3 hardware update that I included it in my consideration on the matter.

I don't know. The pace of updates is definitely faster than it was a couple of years ago.

On another tack, I truly appreciate the way they add stuff without overwhelming the interface and keep the existing workflow intact.

Ableton is solid that way...
