Sorry Medinex :(

This only pertains to the Noise OSC. Once there has been a sample embedded when you click on the Noise label you will get the following
Thorn01.jpg
There's a bug at the moment where it doesn't show the name of the sample properly.

Hope that makes sense!

It's the 3rd thing I do..
1>> start DAW
2>> load synth
2>> Open manual to read the wonders that the developer has put into his labour... BUT I do wish this synth had more than some value read outs as %.. I mean EQ gain or freq @ 65%.. 65% of what?

Oh yes... :help: I think there is a saying... "RTFM"... :tu:

yeah i think i might have heard that one before

Here's my entry! https://soundcloud.com/lostphases/living-circuitry

14 Instances of Thorn, a few instances of Ableton's native Reverb (2), and an instance of Frequency Shifter (also native to Ableton).
Frequency Shifter was used once at 3:39.

Good luck to everyone! :D

Hey guys.
Here is my first time ever entry for the One Synth Challenge 105.

https://soundcloud.com/chris-rendall-2/ ... all-intake

I used Steinberg Cubase Ai8 DAW, (it came bundled with the UR22 I got a year ago)
All effects, reverb etc were taken care of with the Thorn synth.
I used 16 instances of Thorn.

It's a darn good synth. I might treat myself next pay day.

Good Luck all. Happy synthing!

I have a question please. Can I change my entry as I have played with the thorn a bit more and found a few new treasures, or do I have to stick with what I have already posted?

Oh, pfff, why are you all posting songs already, pfff...there's so much to explore with this synth. It's like a sin to just go make a track with some presets, haha. And it's an incredible joy to make them with endless stuff to explore, but nearly no complication to get to the features.

ANYWAY! I've just spend a day over at the Thorn thread and folks there made me realize that you can import wavetables, or Cells into the oscillators. It will convert them into their spectral content, so this won't be like in Zebralette, where you could essentially do the same, too, but you also could use the sample pieces as is. Thorn does not do that. It only takes the spectral conversion for the oscillators AND for the harmonic filter, which could get even more amazing in terms of experiments.

So, to clarify: Of course, you must not load samples into the NOISE feature, because there it literally would use the samples as is. BUT you can totally import cells into the oscillators or the harmonic filter. I'm 100% convinced that it's absolutely in line with the OSC spirit and there ain't nothin' wrong with that!

Has anyone noticed the synth outputting a louder signal near the higher and lower frequencies? This happens even when the boost button is off. I tested with both a sine and a square wave, the effect is more noticeable with the sine. I also turned tried turning off all the modulation and other parameters though i might have missed one... Am i doing something wrong?
Is this some form of equal loudness compensation?

Post

I think so, too. Might be a neat "trick" to create a more exciting feel right off the bet with extra loudness, similar to this one rompler many years ago that got so popular...Nemesis or so, I forgot. Anyway, once you know about it, you can work with it, I think. It's such a different world with that harmonic filter. It makes you really rethink sound design and mixing. I just know I'm getting a massive kick out of it.

Yes, exactly.. so much to explore... and yes, in the harmonic editor one can import single wavs or multiple wavs.. all in the manual and YES, it does treat them differently to the wee_Zebra.. well, if we could import OUR wavs into ZebLet osc.. we should be able to do it with Thorn.. surely that is what the OSC spirit is.. )))

Those are some really good percs!

Oh my freaking goodness...I love to recreate some sick basedrums from Kick2 with Thorn!

Not knowing anything about Serum, is this really a competitor? The sounds on this thing are crazy good. Seems like it could handle making those fierce growls super easy for example. For 70 dollars I might pick up a copy. The demo sounds are great.

Another example, the cello preset sound already sounds like someone worked really hard to make a cello. Not sure where to take this!

Haha! But this synth is so good at quick and effective results. (as commercial synth should be) Awesome preset library, so much built-in effects and... distortion  In this OSC the main obstacle is to hold excitement :hyper:
