When can we stop making 32-bit plugins?

Anyway not everyone is stuck in 2002. Some of us have moved on.

You could stop developing 32-bit and see how it turns out. If your sales are way down, then you can just start developing them again. I don't own licenses for any of your products, so it won't make any difference to me personally.

oh yeah more RAM to load bigger samples to make projects fat and bloated. no thanks manbraj wrote:There is a real reason 64 bit is better: RAM. Your computer can simply do more. i'll stick to 5-10mb physical modeled and VA synths and 1mb EnergyEXT2 that loads in a split second.

In the end of the day I think it is the developers that has to drive this move towards 64-bit only. As long as 32-bit is available people will use it. At the same time it is the developers that need to handle any support issues that might follow as a consequence. I have a feeling that this move might be painful but down the road everything will be just fine.

Lol, good for you man, it doesn't sound like you are in the market to buy any new plugins anyway. And again, I said it depends on what music you make, if you are scoring to video and doing orchestration I doubt your setup would be sufficient. But if you prefer to work with a tape recorder and a kazoo, all power to you for that, best of luck.layzer wrote:oh yeah more RAM to load bigger samples to make projects fat and bloated. no thanks manbraj wrote:There is a real reason 64 bit is better: RAM. Instead of using the 64 bit version ? The 32 bit version is only to placate Luddites like Layzer.ATN69 wrote:I As long as 32-bit is available people will use it.
Here's the bottom line....going 64 bit future proofs your system for the foreseeable future as I doubt 128 bit architecture and plugins are anywhere on the near horizon.
Like I said there are already 64 bit only plugins and I'm willing to bet that trend will only grow as time goes on.

Sure, but if you think about it ..a user that had only 32-bit for years and years buy a new plugin. The new plugin have both 64-bit and 32-bit version. What do you think this user will choose?Teksonik wrote:Instead of using the 64 bit version ? That's why I am saying that developers has to drive the trend, and if plugins come as 64-bit only, users have no choice except to get 64-bit or not buying. Second thing is that the developer might save a little bit of time as you said before, but I bet it will cost them some time in terms of support instead, at least the first couple of years.
